For those of you who live in the UK, or use Zattoo.com to watch TV on your PC, tune your telly or Tivo to BBC4.
At 9pm is 'Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story.
At 10.55pm is Stax Volt Tour of Norway 1967. It includes Booker T & The MGs, Sam and Dave, and five songs by Otis Redding, inclding "Try A Little Tenderness", complete with thre false exits. (I'm reading the TV guide on this.) Sounds great - I'm sure it will.

Perhaps I should start sobbing now and just get it over with.
"Respect Yourself," if you haven't seen it before, is pretty terrific, especially in the first half. It kind of peters out about two-thirds of the way through, sorta like Stax itself did. But the concert footage alone is worth your left one.
I was going to pass, on the assumption that I've heard the stories and seen the footage before. But you've changed my mind...it never hurts to see that footage again of the MGs backing Sam and Dave at that Southern college, does it? Steve Cropper is burning on that night.
any if we aren't in Enland I trust you'll tell us all about it?
Pix, if you go to www.zattoo.com, you may be able to get BBC4 on your pc. It's a Swis-based site and they stream TV channels from all over the world. It seems to be territory based because it will say what channels you can receive in your country. And it's legal.
Thanks for the tip - this is definitely unmissable stuff.
Somewhere in my loft I have a box of tapes gathering dust, including a cassette issued by the NME of the Stax/Volt revue in Europe around about 1967. It is complete dynamite from beginning to end and I wish I had it here beside me right now
thanks for the tip off jonh
going out tonite did'nt know it was on.....
just set dvd to record it
cheers
One of the things I miss most about my switching of cable services is my lack of BBC now. This looked like it would have been a good one, I hope it makes it way to PBS soon
Saturday morning now - if you get the chance, make sure you see it. The MGs take about 8 bars to be in full flight. Duck Dunn is simply amazing. He looks like he's on some particularly strong stimulant he's so intense, playing wonderfully melodic bass all night. Steve Cropper is almost the opposite, looking elegant and cool with some great stage moves. And then the singers come out one after the other and just destroy the place.
It made my list John, I keep it next to the tele and everytime I am about to sit down I check to see if any of the shows I really want to see are going to be on.
wow, i would love to see this
Alas, Zattoo isn't accepting users in the US. Will have to try to keep this on the radar and see if it shows up on PBS.
