Bill, does that include being a foundation of hip hop via sampling? I can well remember the first time I heard The Real Roxanne and the James yelp on the 3. Almost drove the car off the road.
No, that extended moment was not previously counted. It is now. And thanks for reminding me of the superbness that was "The Real Roxanne," the greatest answer record ever....
Well I had planned on a relaxing Friday but while listening to this I can't seem to stand/sit still and the track just called for another and another and another, Darn, I guess I'll have to be productive afterall with all this energy!
Only JB can dance like that, without new shoe soles, or say - vaseline on the floor... Maceo is a _monster... and the high screech that JB gets up to rivals any alto sax prodigy, or even Miles with a split upper lip on the trumpet.
Man I love this guy.. revisiting this music inspires me to play my heart out. I am enjoyed watching the band to see how they just groove with "the Man"....
i think i'd keel over and die if i saw someone nowadays with that much mellow confidence and total authority just building into a storm slowly and steadily

The band are so relaxed they are all sitting down-This is an awesome way to start my friday night(and a cold beer or three)
>clink< bottoms up, mitchy. Happy to provide the soundtrack. When Maceo kicks in with the solo it goes to another plane.
This is definitely from one of the golden periods. How many were there, anyway? By my reckoning, seven or eight at least....

This Friday is off to a hot start....

Roxanne Shante...I was going to say you couldn't make up a name like that, but obviously she did. Lil Wayne? What kind of a handle is that??
As lame as most of the new hip-hop tags. (Forgive that spasm of churlishness.) Still, how is anyone ever going to top Afrika Bambaata?

Thanks Jonh
Is that Tim Drummond or Fred Thomas on bass? Or is it me spoiling the funk with my ignoramus's questions?

Perfectly put, Neil.
WOW!!! 1969 huh? It sure funked up my friday. What a squeal he lets go! Many thanks!
Stone classic Jonh, stone classic.
It does not get any better, badder or funkier. Period.
It's amazing to me how smooth James Brown moved on his feet all his life until his death. The man was a true entertainer!
