Rock Shrine No. 40 – 23 Brook Street [Jimi Hendrix]
-
Artist:

In 1968 and 1969 Jimi Hendrix was one of the world's biggest rock stars. But when he wasn't jetting to rock festivals and sold out concerts, the small flat on the very top floor is the palace he called home. He moved from here a few months before his death.
In London there's a society that puts blue plaques on buildings where famous people lived or, occasionally, famous events happened. Where the devil's music is concerned, only one person has had that honour.

In a piece of sublime serendipity, Jimi lived next door to where another musical genius lived two centuries earlier.

The house where Handel lived and died is now a museum (Handel House Museum). The rooms where Jimi lived is now a kitchen and toilet area for their volunteer staff.

you know Jonh, this would be a good travel package concept to the UK...a Rock Shrines Tour! (or, maybe it already is?)
Karen, it is. Jonh has the trademark and the rights to it. You didn't think these posts were innocent, did you....ha!
;)
Hello Jonh! Do you have plans to publish these? It would make a great book.
Did you know that Bon Scott died on Overhill Road in East Dulwich? It's not far from me.
Currently watching Dr Who concert at Albert Hall (on the tv). It's brilliant. Davros is there, with a dalek. The doctor, himself, turned up on screen from a link in the TARDIS. It's very well done.
Hope you're well.
Karen - Anna's not far wrong! I've made a couple of presentations to companies in an effort to take it furher, with no success yet. In London there's a Beatles tour and a Rock and Roll tour (and I think a similar Beatles one in Liverpool) and there are a couple of sites tied to the tourist boards.
Anna - Mike the KNife has the US fanchise. Ya wanna have Greece?
Helen - Great to hear from you! I'm very well thanks. And you? Rule number one in this venture is Never Go Out Of Your Way. When I know I'll be in Dulwich, I'll call you - that would be a morbid but good one to have. Good Bon Scott story: AC/DC were really late going on at the Hammersmith Odeon one time because Bon had got on the Tube to go to the gig - going the wrong way.
I'm very well, too. Busy working whilst trying to become an artist, and really enjoying it. I made a short film for my first project, which went down well. Been massively inspired by Storm Thorgerson recently. I went to Sydney just before Christmas and got to see many of his album sleeve works on a large scale at an exhibition there.
Yes, let me know when you're in Dulwich. That's a good story about Bon Scott. I must confess I've done that myself, when I haven't been concentrating. Funny that he was even on the underground in the first place. I suppose anonymity was easier to maintain then.
It's all true, people. Jonh and I have built a franchise-ready winner. Foreign investors are welcome and encouraged. You know how to contact us. (Hendrix and Handel - jamming in Heaven?)
I don't know if you've already gone there, but when I saw this, I was reminded of the first time I went to London. Everyone had their famous place they wanted to visit, and I was no exception. I went straight to Powis Square.
Masoo - I used to live in the area in the 70s and loved to pass Powis Square. At the time it was full of squatters and drug dealers. Now it's an area of millionaires. I haven't been to Ladbroke Grove for over a year, but there's a load of places there to go on the list - that will be one of them.
Make sure you put "Memo from Turner" on the soundtrack!
Done!
