Bowie Sings Iggy

Posted over 2 years ago
On the one hand Bowie may have befriended Iggy to save him from himself. On the two hand he may have wanted a subject on which to test his Neu Motorik musik theories. On the three hand he may just have wanted a buddy with which to drink beer and terrorise girls.Whichever, 'The Idiot' was still the strangest album of 1976.

  2. disneyr says Bowie probably enjoyed the expansion of his artistic perspective brought by Iggy. Iggy although he may not have enjoyed it probably accepted just enough of a limitation on his urges to keep him alive through that era. I actually know that they both went to Geneva, Switzerland to the home of Sandro Sursock for periods of retreat and relative anonymity. It probably saved them both from a stereotypical Joplin or Cobain fate.

  3. Jonh Ingham says Bowie said he liked Berlin because nobody cared about them.

  4. Hermes says That's why Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie moved to the town. Berlin people can be positively ignorant regarding stars and not only the stars, one aspect I like about them. Never heard of "Neu Motorik" - just had a look on the regarding article of Wikipedia. Interesting, I have to listen more precisely to the rhythm structure, when listening the next time to Faust. And two days before I heart the first time of "Neu! here in the Mogosphee - didn't know them before. Nice little coincidence. I want to get some albums of them. There has been a re-release of their albums "six years ago":http://72.166.46.24//boston/music/other_stories/documents/01779241.htm, how I just foud out.

  6. Rawkkiddoh says Dont I remember Germans liking the Hoff quite a bit.......maybe they are selective in the artists they choose to love

  7. Hermes says I'm not sure Rawk, if if I get you right or not. The fact that nobody cared about those two guys in Berlin, doesn't mean, that they didn't like them back then. I guess, they just didn't run after them and - but maybe I overinterpret the behaviour here - just let them live like they wanted to without molesting them by running after them, asking them for signatures and that kind of fan craziness. In Munich this for sure would have been different - there's all the typcial high society bullshit and a lot of snobbish people, who would have loved to preen themselves with the fact, having met a star like Bowie or Iggy in the pedestrian zone. And that seems not to happen in Berlin, as I already read a few times and what I can comprehend somehow, after having been there a few times. This has nothing to do with the question, if they liked the artists or not. It's more a question of how people react, if they stumble upon stars somewhere - independent if they like them or not. Many people like Bowie and Iggy here, the Hoff thanks god is outdated, but not only here but worldwide, or not? I'm not the biggest fan of Iggy - a bit more of Bowie - , but I have a certain respect for their work and maybe I'm gonna get a bigger fan in the forthcoming years. My music taste changes - get's broader hopefully. I hope everyone is selective in the artists, one chooses to love. I can only speak for me. I'm indeed highly selective. But nontheless I wouldn't run after one of my beloved musicians in the pedestrian zone, as I respect, that they sometimes just want to conduct a private life like everyone else, without beeing runned after all the time.

  8. Rawkkiddoh says I didnt mean to offend, it just seems to me that Europe in general does not get as fan obsessed as they do here in the states. I can understand the desire to want to live somewhere that people are not hounding you everytime you walk out the door. The Hoff, well it just amazes me that the German public has embraced him the way they did.

  9. HelenMarie says Haven't heard this track before...glad I can say I have now. Not a big fan of either but respect both of em. The fans of entertainment can definitely become crazy obsessed. Some people have respect and some don't. Friends & I held back from invading Les Claypol and the Frog Brigade when they were walking around the block. They passed right by us while we were eating at an outdoor cafe. We all just got kinda starry eyed and couldn't speak, but we smiled and waved. The states may not be as bad as china or japan though (not sure which if not both)...they seem to get pretty crazy with the stars, no.

  10. Jonh Ingham says Japan gets very crazy with stars, yes. London is pretty blase.
