WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

I can't stop

Posted over 3 years ago
I can't stop listening to Pretty Ballerina and Barterers and Their Wives and Walk Away Renee and Dark is the Bark. This has been my constant play lately. And I just got two of their records on vinyl so whenever I actually get to go home, I will be very excited to listen to them.

  1. ivylander says The Left Banke has been getting its share of love on the MOG-O-Sphere lately, and I for feel it's about time. Do you feel, as I do, that "There's Gonna Be A Storm" is about 10 tracks too long? Some of that later stuff never shoulda seen the light of day...

  2. dermahrk says Yeah, when Michael Brown left the band he took the heart and soul with him. Since they only put out two albums (and the second one is pretty rare) I'm surprised to hear you bought two records - or was that 45s? Ivylander, WTF are you holding up? Bloody paintbrushes? And do you know Casper? I keed, cause I think you live within 5 miles of me - Churchville, PA.

  3. ivylander says They're tofu grilled in miso on a stick, I think. The avatar is Dengakuman, a character on an anime TV show called "Bobobo-Bo Bobo-Bo," which is shown on Cartoon Network Saturday nights at 10 and is a major bonding experience between my 10-year-old son and me. To my astonishment, I recently discovered that Dengakuman has his own Wikipedia entry. Check it out for a more detailed description. It's too weird to blather on about here. Yes, you are very close! Never read your location info. Maybe we can convene at a pizza joint on Street Road one of these evenings. In the meantime, did you ever hear a band called Stories, which Michael Brown founded post-Left Banke? They did one album, he split, and then the rest of the band made a pile of greenbacks with an utter piece of crap called "Brother Louie." The album with Brown was rather good, as I recall, and when I saw them live in the early '70s (he was still with them then) they were sensational.

  4. dermahrk says Yes, I have the Stories LP. Also, check out the Beckies, another Brown post-LB group. And finally, pick up the CD by Montage, a one-shot group that Brown produced, wrote for, played on. You've never heard anything that sounded closer to the Left Banke than this. Never got to see any of them live, so my ghost is turning green.
