Red Hot Chili Peppers - Mini-Epic (Kill For Your Country)

...I still believe this is one of the best Red Hot Chili Peppers songs ever made, 'created' a few years ago, yet never officially released (too political?) - DOH!

[EDIT 05/20/11]

Previously embedded MP3 no longer available, but here's a HQ video uploaded to YouTube in 2010:

  2. Jo says Don't you love it when John starts singing in Kurt Cobain style? The studio version is apparently gathering dust in Rick Rubin's personal collection, I bet their label is finding it too political to release :(

  3. danieljamesbattersby says yeah, this is one of my favourite peppers songs as well. i've been desperate for them to release it ever since i saw them play it at hyde park back in june 2004. the hyde park version was going to be released on "live in hyde park" but rick rubin asked if he could have it for a compilation cd (i think it was a benfit/charity thing) that he still hasn't released (grrrr). as far as i know it was only ever played at three shows, all on the european summer tour 2004. once was at hyde park (on june 25th), and the others were at rock am ring (where this recording was made i think) and one other uk date (either manchester or cardiff, i can't remember which). an interview with john frusciante and anthony kiedis from around that time revealed that they named the song mini-epic due to the different sections that the song has. i have one bootleg version of it, which sadly cuts out just as it goes into the punky bit at the end, so if anyone has a version of it that is complete (quality isn't too much of an issue, but a reasonable recording would be nice) could they please message me? cheers djb

  4. danieljamesbattersby says yeah, the other uk date was cardiff, not manchester (they played rolling sly stone at manchester instead - i have that whole show on bootleg). also, i do in fact have two versions of it, one is a video recording (i think it was taken on a phone, cos the sound quality isn't brilliant, although it is acceptable) from the cardiff show. so yeah, if anyone's interested in either of them, or any other rhcp bootlegs (i have quite a lot) then let me know, and i'll send 'em on to you. cheers djb

Note: When I made the original post above in February 2007 it had an MP3 of the song embedded. MOG has since moved on a lot and so that embedded MP3 is no longer there, unfortunately.

However, thankfully this high-quality recording from the song as performed live at Rock Am Ring in 2004 was uploaded on YouTube in July 2010:

Now let's hope the Warner peep read the video poster's 'fair usage' claim before they try and have it removed ;)
