Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats (Re-Post)

Posted over 3 years ago
My previous post about this disappeared into MOG Space, so here's another attempt. The Red Hot Chili Peppers, after releasing their 2006 album Stadium Arcadium and the subsequent tour which ended in Leeds, UK, in August 2007, decided to take a one-year-break to recuperate and focus on family life and individual projects.Bassist Flea is focusing on his family as well as his Silverlake Conservatory of Music charity, guitarist John Frusciante is to release a solo album later this year, and Anthony Kiedis is enjoying life as a new dad while curating a music festival this August in Pittsburgh.Chad Smith got back together with the band he formed to previously support Glenn Hughes; they have now called themselves Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats and have been recording and touring together.A taster of their funky groove:If the above video does not work for you, check it out on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xVfIVn3GRw.Should this not tickle your flaps, don't panic; the Peppers are set to get back together this autumn (Sep '08) to start work on new material.

  2. Jo says Yes, Charley's post was 100% correct, the 1-year break started after the tour ended August last year and the band have every intention of starting on new work this fall. (The interview she referred to is a very recent interview by Anthony Kiedis with Rolling Stone, to draw attention to the festival he is curating this summer.)

  4. Jo says Absence makes the heart grow fonder ;) Personally I feel that, if, as a fan, I might have to wait forever and a day for my favorite band to release new material, because they are leading happy fulfilling lives doing whatever it is they are doing, I am happy to wait patiently - 20-25 years of extensive back catalogue to bathe myself in, in the meantime. And yes, after everything I have flamed him for, I agree curating that festival was a brilliant move of Kiedis to make.
