What I don't understand is why exactly this new coalition is needed; I mean, when the UK already has PRS, PPL, VPLBPI, the Musicians' Union, and so on and so forth, all supposedly there to protect/defend/represent musicians, why do these British artists still feel underrepresented/undervalued? And how is yet another organisation/assocation, this time the Featured Artists' Coalition (FAC) going to make things better for them?

Doesn't creating more parties to sit at each negotiating table make things even more complex? Wouldn't everyone's interests be served better if structures were kept simple and transparent, and everyone involved did their job right so no one would feel the need to set up yet another legal entity?

Excuse me if I so far fail to see what FAC has to add to any other existing organisation like the ones previously mentioned...

@mollifire: From their official website: "Artists who have signed up include Billy Bragg, Boilerhouse Boys, Chrissie Hynde, Craig David, David Gilmour, Gang of Four, Iron Maiden, Jazzie B, Jools Holland, Kaiser Chiefs, Kate Nash, Klaxons, Radiohead, Richard Ashcroft, Robbie Williams, Sia Furler, Soul II Soul, Stephen Duffy, The Cribs, The Verve, Travis, Wet Wet Wet, White Lies"

And so the debate continues. Musicians (content providers) are insufficiently valued--after all, bloggers do it for free. Let's hope it doesn't turn into a debate about the correct placement of deck chairs on the Titanic.
