Now opening for Michael Penn. . .

Posted about 5 years ago
While purchasing tickets for Michael Penn's upcoming concert at Schubas, I noted that a band called "The Last Town Chorus" was opening. Intrigued, I clicked on their website. It turns out that they have not only been featured on the most recent SXSW offering, but their cover of David Bowie's '80's hit "Modern Love" was featured on "Grey's Anatomy." Imagine 10,000 Maniacs with a healthy dose of Edie Brickell thrown in. If you thought that the Dan Mangan track below was low key, this group will be semi-catatonic. It's an acquired taste, but there's something hypnotic about the lead singer's voice. I've provided the SXSW track for your listening pleasure, but I actually prefer track 9, "Wintering in Brooklyn." All-in-all, I'm looking forward to seeing them perform live.

  1. golux13 says Hmm... If it weren't for the vocals, I might be concerned that this song was a 45 recording played at 33-1/3. The singer's voice is nice, but not really anything special, and at points it sounded like she was about ready to doze off. The song reminded me of the more down-tempo tracks from Texas, a band I like quite a bit several years back. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy the album, but if there are more up-tempo offerings, I might check them out.
