Mclaughlin had a close association with Devadip Carlos Santana and recorded Love Devotion Surrender with him after playing in Miles Davis electric band. He later formed the Indian Jazz fusion group Shakti - watch out for some truly unique music from them and the group's re-formed incarnation 'Remember Shakti'. Notable Mahavishnu drummers include Narada Michael Walden and Billy Cobham and John Mclaughlin currently plays with Dennis Chambers.    LadyC says john mclaughin is one of my favourite guitarists next to john zorn, the name didn't ring a bell but thank you for the info. i saw his shakti tour in a beautiful venue/festival in vienne, france (a famous jazz fest) as the sun set behind the roman amphitheatre.

    disappear says here pictured are probably my two favorite guitarists ever. john mclaughlin and santana really were soo far ahead of their time. now what happened to carlos' stunning guitar playing from that era?? not that his new playing isnt great- he's not challenging himself and seems to have subjected himself to recording with nickelback and other various clear channel crap artists.
