Joanna Newsom - Ys

Artist:
Good lord in heaven, this album is amazing.Listen to it on headphones! The instrumentation and vocal arrangements are full of subtlety... and the lyrics are gorgeous. Check out this, my favorite bit from Emily:
Gorgeous.I know Joanna's voice can be a bit abrasive to the uncovered ear, but it's definitely been toned down for this album, and... oh kids, give her a shot. You won't be sorry. She is, in my humble opinion, one of the best lyricists I've ever heard -- and I care a lot about lyrics, so you can trust me on that.Plus, I've had little bits and fragments of her melodies in my head for over a week.Ys comes out on November 14th.Its cover is kinda lame, though:Anyhow - I sat by your side, by the waterYou taught me the names of the stars overhead that I wrote down in my ledgerThough all I knew of the rote universe were those pleiades loosed in decemberI promised you I'd set them to verse so I'd always remember
That the meteorite is a source of the lightAnd the meteor's just what we seeAnd the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee
And the meteorite's just what causes the lightAnd the meteor's how it's perceivedAnd the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet in offering to thee...
