WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

We Shall Ride Under a Black Flag and Call the Streets our Empire

Posted over 3 years ago
Driving back from the desert the other day, Gregor and I listened to hours upon hours upon hours of girls with guitars (and other stringed instruments). My favorite by far was The Ditty Bops. These eminently photogenic women make uptempo, old-timey folk with a 20s tinge, extremely clever songwriting, and a pleasantly cynical tone. Listen to them performing Angel with an Attitude (my current favorite) live, and you'll see what I mean:Angel With an Attitude mp3It's the kind of music you'd like to have at a picnic, the sort of thing that's perfect for a sunny afternoon in spring. I didn't say it was soft! Just... pleasant. Further extending their supply of magic, these girls have been spending their summer touring the nation on bicycle. Yes! It's true. In fact they are on their way to Oregon... Puffy, got plans next week? No? Great, then go catch the show.

  7. Puffmagic says Diddy Bops you say? I'll have to try and see that. Try to get back into the swing of actually going to shows instead of just saying I'm going then falling asleep in front of the tv with a half-eaten tube of cookie dough in my fist.

  10. SWozniak says Touring on bicycles? I'm sold. If they come anywhere near me, I think I may just bicycle to see them play. For the environment and all.
