Track:Why And How Come
Portland indie pop group The Shaky Hands will hit the road in early May for a brief jaunt around the U.S. The tour, which supports the band’s just released self-titled debut album, will kick off May 6 at San Francisco’s Makeout Room, carry through Texas and the Midwest and close in St. Paul, Minn. at the Turf Club on May 15. The Shaky Hands have been receiving loads of attention in Portland as of late. Everyone says pretty much the same thing: Fun, summertime indie pop. Though it’s getting a bit tired, they’re pretty much right. A little Shins, a little ‘70s shaggy jangle and a lot of goodtime BBQ-smelling hooks. Thing is: Tons of bands can wear plaid, grow beards and do the hipster jingle jangle. But only few, like the Shaky Hands, can do it well and do, in fact, make sunny summers sunnier. Their self-titled debut album—which Holocene Music released April 10—is not meant for deep reading; there are no interesting complexities between the lines. This is pure trembling pop with a countrified edge. If you have no hang-ups about liking basic, well done music, you should enjoy The Shaky Hands, preferably outside on the patio.
