I'm getting into the blogging world of music. I'm a Hype Machine addict. And now I want to write about what I like... even tho it's most likely that no one will read this, it's fine! ha.
A recent obsession : GREG LASWELL.

I only have half of his album, but from what I've heard I'm hooked. I heard about him due to his opening spot for Ingrid Michaelson on a recent tour.
The tunes are upbeat, yet his voice is calming. I'd say the lyrics are clever, relationship-driven, heartfelt and real. I'm a sucker for a good voice, catchy tune, and honest lyrics. So Greg and I immediately fit. It's inevitable that he'll grow in popularity, and his "How the Day Sounds" song is on the Paste Magazine sampler this month. I believe he's already been heard on Greys Anatomy and other TV shows... So now I wish I would've made it to his Philly show when I could have! (Greg-come to Tulsa?!)
Since "How the Day Sounds" is one of the more popular indie pop songs, I'll highlight "The One I Love." Check out "Days Go On" and the older Through Toledo album while you're at it.
Greg is definitely on constant repeat.

This movie also taught me about the 60s in a new way, and it intentionally finds ways to connect with the situations in the world today. It caused me to ask my parents all about the 60s and the Beatles' music. They lived in Michigan at the time of the Detroit race riots. And since my dad was actually in a band who wished they were the Beatles, they had a lot to say.
I couldn't stop listening to this soundtrack for probably two weeks! It's an instant mood lifter. So check out this great song that Jude sings in the movie, its been really addicting.

GOOD! I'm so glad that someone feels this way about the soundtrack and the movie. I was amazed at how much I liked the movie versions of the Beatles songs. There were definitely times when I thought the songs were maybe a little bit cheesy, but yeah, you're right. It's overall a great mood lifter. And the film itself was full of incredible imagery. I'm partial to the Mr. Kite and Strawberry Fields scenes. I'm so happy you liked it too.
I was sitting in the ORU worship office the other day... when some boys started jamming out with their own version of "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room." Then I was reminded of the new John Mayer album which I had listened to briefly, but hadn't been completely moved by. So i was inspired to listen to the Continuum album again... and i definitely fell in LOVE with it... i have never liked John Mayer THIS much. So many of the songs just hit me, this is an album for where i'm at in life/how i feel right now.
I especially can't stop listening to "Stop This Train"... so amazing. Almost everyday i am asked what i am doing after i graduate from college in the spring... and of course i have no clue! i know i am praying and hoping i get a job with teen mania/acquire the fire, but i have NO plans! so i don't really like the fact that time is moving on and i have to grow up and become an adult who lives on her own and pays bills and has a real job where she can't go back to her room and nap whenever she wants. plus, friends will be split up, move away, and won't be kept in touch with or seen as often as well as i would hope.
it's a huge change.
stop this train is all about time and being scared of the future... everything he says is like wow... that's me... yep. and now, i will share some of the wonderfully heart-piercing lyrics with you. "don't want to see my parents go..." "so scared of getting older. i'm only good at being young. so i play the numbers game to find a way to say that life has just begun." "don't for a minute change the place you're in" "once in a while when it's good, it'll feel like it should, and they're all still around, and you're still safe and sound, and you don't miss a thing, till you cry when you're driving away in the dark..."
i agree::::::::: stop this train, i want to get off and go home again. i can't take the speed it's moving in... i know i can but honestly, won't someone stop this train?Best Music I've Recently Seen

See? Someone read it. And now that same someone's gonna check him out. Thanks.
You should have posted the tune so we can hear it.
You should have gone to the Philly show, it was great!! I'm digging this track too. I also love "Embrace Me" from the How The Day Sounds EP. I wish I could find a live and/or acoustic version of it, because it was so incredibly beautiful and sad when he sang it in Philly.
Ironically, I just heard "How the Day Sounds" in this Wegman's I'm in. I wouldn't have heard it if I didn't stop to get something to eat. and I've never heard it played anywhere before. how funny! :)
