Okay, I tried it. Still not impressed.

A friend gave me a copy of My Chemical Romance's latest, The Black Parade. There's been quite a bit of hoopla about the band and the album everywhere. Being open-minded, I gave it a listen. It's not horrible, but it is terribly slick and just a wee bit overproduced. And just look at them...they really are too cute and precious to think they are so angsty. If I were fifteen I'd be drooling. Instead I find myself wondering what brand of eye make-up they use.*sigh* Perhaps if they put their angst-ridden lyrics to less pop-y music I could get into it a little more. Just not my cup of tea, perhaps.

  5. darmuzz says I love these guys. And I'm not 15. So what's my excuse? :) I like the Black Parade album because it is thematic (so-called rock opera) and has overtones of 70s classic rock and glam. I also love the punk-cabaret thing they've got going on, like the Dresden Dolls. I don't think it would sound right "stripped down." It's supposed to be Over the Top.

  7. Jenn67 says darmuzz, I do appreciate the thematic nature of the album. It's really the only thing that saves it for me. And I do agree that the punk-cabaret, over the topness is the point and it should not be stripped down. A different friend gave me their previous album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, and I listened to that for comparisons sake. I stand by my comment that the Black Parade is a wee bit over-produced. You can let the music be over the top and still keep some of the rawness that gives it some more emotion. In my mind slick doesn't necessarily equal over the top and vice versa.

  8. yertleturtle says i'm at the age where everyone around me is going crazy for this band, but they just don't do anything for me. i've been hearing their music for a while, before their latest offering, but I can't relate to it, I can't listen to it, its more theatrical and not half as interesting as Queen, and this whole emo thing is a tad odd. but i can understand why people like them, and kudos to anyone who does.
