WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Sing, You Sinners!

Posted over 2 years ago
So, there I was! At my local Border's walking around enjoying my $2.00 cup of plain coffee! On my way throught the Rock/Pop section to Jazz, I happened to look at the display above the rack and saw this CD.I've mentioned how difficult it is for modern performers to compete with dead jazz singers before. Michael Buble is a good example. The kid has a good voice, but he uses a band that copies the same arrangements from the 40s and 50s, but with much lesser musicians. He might make it someday if he does something original instead of copying work that has already been done.Erin McKeown, on the other hand, takes some great lyrics from the 40s and 50s and throws the traditional arrangements to the gutter! Her voice is Hot, Hot, Hot! And, she's easy on the eyes to boot!Go over to iTunes and have a look at her album "here":http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=200859228. (Note: iTunes has 3 bonus tracks that you won't find on the CD!)My favourites are "Get Happy," and "Paper Moon"You've gotta love these "Girls with Guitars!"

  2. shagg says I had both of her previous albums and really liked the last one ("We Will Become Like Birds") -- she's a solid writer too. This new album is such fun, you can just hear it. A few friends of mine have seen her on this tour and said she totally rocks out. Love those hollowbody Gretsch guitars!
