Swing it Keely!

Posted over 4 years ago
This compilation CD from the peak of her Capitol Records years contains over two dozen of her best recordings.Little Dorothy Keely, later known as "Keely Smith" would go on to marry Louis Prima ("Just a Gigolo" and "Swing, Swing, Swing") and be a part of the Vegas "In Crowd" that included Dean Martin (she used to sing the songs to him that the record company wanted him to record while he was playing golf so he could learn the song), Frank Sinatra (they almost married), Sammy Davis, Billy May, Bill Miller, and many, many others.Listening to her swing with Louis Prima and Frank Sinatra is like taking a time machine back to the Vegas Strip of the 1950s when casinos had real bands! Although this CD isn't on iTunes yet, you can preview the tracks on Amazon right "here":http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Capitol-Collection-Keely-Smith/dp/B000R7HYQ4. Have a listen to "Nothing's Too Good for My Baby" or "Stormy Weather."If you like this compilation of her songs, I'd suggest that you have a look on Amazon at some of her albums from the Capitol years.P.S. She's still going strong at 75 years of age!

  1. Grievous Angel says she did an excellent LP of "her years with Sinatra":http://www.amazon.com/Keely-Sings-Sinatra-Smith/dp/B00005A82U/ref=sr_1_6/002-4607089-8882425?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1187567723&sr=1-6 and i thought she had a new deal with Telarc, altho i may be confusing her with Tierny Sutton.
