Spaces Revisited

Posted about 2 years ago

One of my favorites from Coryell's extensive catalog. These guys are in very good form on this record and it's definitely worth a listen. I don't see Coryell's recent album "Tricycles" on here which might be my favorite, but am content to see Spaces Revisited here as it wasn't on Lala. For this album, if you just want a sample...Check out the first track, "Dragon Gate". Richard Bona's funky bass fits in super nice.

Jared, I know I listened to this over on Lala and liked it, but I swear it sounds better over here and I like it more.

Wow, I missed it on Lala.... and it does sound pretty good here!

But admit, Dave, Menken's The Little Mermaid was the highlight of your listening day :)

I enjoyed it. That one  and "Beauty and the Beast" are the best of the  Disney soundtracks. I wonder if his partner Howard Ashman hadn't died, that they might have written  The Lion King's score and saved us from having to hear Elton John's stuff.

I like hearing Odo (Rene Auberjunois)  singing about cooking succulent little crabs, while Sebastian tries to flee the cleaver.

I meant to listen to "Under The Sea" also but I had to quit to do some errands before I got that far. Same lack of groceries the others were statusing about.

Brad mentioned that he thought Mog was 256? Not sure about Lala. I think Mog sounds excellent.... and that's a great question. Love to know if you find out.

Sorry, I forgot that basic rule: first google, then ask.

    From the mog knowledge base:

"The MOG All Access service streams most music at 320kbps in MP3 CBR format. A small portion of our catalog streams at 256kbps."

    I don't know what lala's bitrate is yet, but 320 is hi-fi.

And from a lala forum post by one of their admins:

"The streaming can vary slightly depending on what we got from the label but we aim for 256Kbps VBR format.

Of course, a lot depends on the quality of the .mp3 files they get from the labels.  Over in dimeadozen land, .mp3s are a dirty word.

Pavowren and I  noticed that tracks sounded  better on MOG. MOG going 320kps would seem to account for the difference.

What do bitrates do iTunes and Amazon vend?

iTunes went from 128 to 256, I think, when they dropped DRM.  amazon is 256.  (VBR in both cases.)
