No:492 DAVID CROSBY - IF I COULD ONLY REMEMBER MY NAME (1971)My teenage musical education was, like my peers, to reject anything remotely hippy, and artists like David Crosby passed me by until I discovered The Byrds in my early 20's. I greedily purchased anything Byrds related and there will be albums from the band in my countdown. Crosby's debut for me is a surreal experience. It feels like the spaced out ambience is marking the end of an era. The melodies are restrained, almost dark, the end of flower power, all washed away in a sea of unfulfilled promise and a mountain of drugs. It's all a gentle coming down experience, filled with Crosby's serene harmonies."Traction In The Rain" and "Music Is Love"

  1. dermahrk says Thanks for this interesting video (actually more of a collage). In my opinion, the best music Crosby has made or been part of is 1) The Byrds - whose music remains timeless. I just cannot get enough of them and 2) CPR - the two CDs he released with - can I say this - bastard son. If you haven't checked out CPR, I recommend it - it emphasizes his gifts with minimal hippie bullshit. And, obviously, some of those good genes got passed on. Wonder if I'll live to hear the child he fathered for Melissa Etheridge (or was that her partner at the time?)
