Late Last Night...

So, because I'm chronically unemployed, (hard times, economic recession, overall laziness, no marketable skills, take your pick), I was up last night watching TV. I tuned into Conan O' Brien, watching it all the way, pretty much bored, I can't go to sleep early because...well that's a long story. Usually the bands on Conan O' Brien, while entertaining, never really capture my attention. I don't know why, for a band to catch my attention like that, it requires a certain sound, although sometimes it takes a while for a band to really capture my attention. The band on last night was Rose Hill Drive. Sitting on the couch with a cold drink in my hand 1:30 in the morning, as soon as I heard them I realized this was different.

I liked their sound, that's the first thing I realized, it snapped, a sudden realization of the obvious, right? I put the drink down, stand up, I wanted to pay more attention to the sound. To the lyrics. For a live performance, it was good. They were really concentrated on their song. Never heard of Rose Hill Drive, but man, they're good. Their sound is reminiscent of classic rock, peppered with a little alternative, I totally enjoyed it, and figured I gotta say something about these guys, even if somebody beat me to it, it doesn't matter. Check them out here, you won't be disappointed... A final question to ya, moggers, anyone else discover bands like this?

My Moggers' Radio

So lately, I've been feeling a little music starved, I don't really know why, can't really explain seeing as how I'm surrounded with all of you, I should be more than filled with musical goodness...I'm not. So, I've decided to use whatever resources I have at my disposal to fulfill said need. Since I'm currently unemployed, I can't use Rhapsody as well as some of you, but it's cool. I decided to use Pandora's ability to create custom radio streams and dedicate a singular radio stream to each of my trusted moggers and anyone else willing to share with me something they think is special. I figured about 5 or 10 bands per station should do it, but I'll probably add more. I might not be the first around here to do this, I'm not really sure myself, but I feel have to. Only you guys, the residents of the Mogverse can help me in my quest. And you will. New path, new road. Same journey. I figure it'll take me about a week or two, but I'll let you guys know how it all played out. Thanks for listening. This was Twelve.

A flow of...something....

It's 2:05 a.m as I write this. I recently discovered 311, despite the fact that I had heard about them for quite some time, I'm just now getting to listen to them. I'm a little backed up, music-wise. So much that I was beginning to feel overwhelmed. My collection's stashed away for a few months, so...without my cds, I'm at the mercy of MOG, of you, my trusted mogs, my dear friends and anyone who stumbled upon my rambling. I love the night and I feel refreshed and content as I listen to this album, which really is great, I recommend it, I mean, wow, I haven't heard music like this in a while, cause I've been kind of down. They say music has the power to heal. Many of you believe in this. I can honestly say that sometimes this is true for me. So a question to you, is it your classic oldies, stashed away, that uplift your spirits or a splash of new, fresh, music that does the job? just wondering...I've been missing from this place for a while, cause...I have no real reason.I feel really bad about that though. Just wanted to get that off my chest. To end this post, at this stage in my life, I can only feel good now. Writing my novels, which I hope someday I can publish, listening to good music, and reading your posts. Amber's just the kind of song I've been needing, something easy on the spirit. I feel really mellow and well I can describe it. You know what it feels like...

A Few Things...

It's been a long time since I've posted something on this wonderful place. I apologize for that. Life's been a little hectic , and I've forgotten just where my priorities lie. I'll fix that. I'm writing this because, as of today, I've been a part of this wonderful collection of incredible people and rock solid principles, amazing ideas, and just amazing people for 1 year.
A lot's changed since that cold, winter day, when I first took the plunge. I like to think I'm a better person because of it. I don't know if that's true or not, but I guess I'll find out as time goes on. I'd like to thank all of my trusted mogs, without them, I'd probably wouldn't have stuck around as long as I been here.
Their support and their love of music is astounding. Always something to say, something new to read, it's never a dull moment around here. Life is ... a surprise, if anything. I'm a man of few words, but it's quality, not quantity, right? So, in conclusion, all others who are also celebrating their 1 year anniversary, congratulations to you all, the journey continues, and the road stretches on, but it's a hell of a ride, so few of us are complaining.
I'm currently not listening to anything, cause I'm a lull of music, any suggestions, of anything you've been listening to is welcome. Thank you all, and have a good day. Oh yeah, rawk on!!

To all our 24 fans out there, you know who you are...

The other day I was having a conversation with a fellow mogger when the subject of 24 came up, yeah, I'm a huge nerd and I love 24. Nothing wrong with that. Anyway, I was just roaming through Wikipedia when I found this old thing. I'm not a big Weezer fan because well, I haven't had the chance to buy any of their albums recently, but I love their songs. Anyway, what does Weezer have to do with anything 24-related? Check out the video and see. I love the whole message of the song, cause a lot of us feel like that sometimes. Just another example of the power of music. Have a blast out there, my brothers in arms, till next time, James.

I'm writing this in response to I am's post. I know that this song doesn't exactly seem like the most happy or uplifting song, but for some strange reason, it seems to help me.It's like...it lets me know that what I'm feeling, I'm not alone, you know, someone else has felt the same.I can't really say any real words of consolation, all I can say, things will get better...in time. We're all here for you...

"All I see is...distance"

I've been away for quite a while now, for this I apologize. I've been meaning to write something meaningful, something that leaves you thinking. I'm just have nothing to say at the moment.
"I'm standing at the crossroads...there's nothing around for miles, I got no ride, and no where to go, no desire to go anywhere anyways. In the distance, all I see is...distance"
I'm pretty sure someone has said this before. Maybe not. Maybe I'm the first person to ever say it. I'm not the first person to feel it. What is it that I'm feeling though? This I don't understand. I'm trying to think of the reasons why I feel this important. Why I'm writing this. Maybe it's not. Maybe I just want to write something. It doesn't matter anyway, none come to mind.
I keep trying to picture this person. Whomever he/she was. Where is this place, anyways? "All I see is...distace". He/She could be referring to life itself. Some people could see adventure, others doubt. Some even dread. I don't know though. Maybe all he/she sees is the distance. Maybe that's the point. What do you guys think? There it is. It's not meaningful. It's something though, the picture below accentuates my statement. I'd be most impressed if anyone of you could tell me where it's from, but I think it does the job. Good bye for now. James.

The Message...

Hello out there, my fellow moggers, I've been missing for a quite a while now, I still follow the news as to what goes on here, we're all pretty busy, but I hope that you are able to indulge me, for just a few minutes.
I've been lost in the world of classical music and I've recently ran into Beethoven's Piano Sonata # 14 in C-Sharp Minor, otherwise known as Moonlight Sonata. Moonlight Sonata is an incredibly popular piece written by Beethoven to his apprentice, the countess Giulietta Guicciardi, (I could be wrong, but then again, my sources are Wikipedia, check out the page here.)
Anyway, I get very mixed messages whenever I listen to this song, I don't know exactly what images it's supposed to portray, all music portrays an image, we think of something whenever we listen to anything.
My point is, listen to it, it's not disappointing at all, but please share with me, what do you think about? What images come to mind as you listen to this? Personally, as soon as I start listening to this, I picture a pond, near a forest, and as the light rains drenches the flowers ever so lightly, you can feel...something, but sadly, I don't know what, anyway, enough of my ranting, here's the song... enjoy.

Driving...

This song,... there is just something about this song that speaks to me, you know? It speaks to me about my uncertainty, and how sometimes we let things happen, instead of making things happen, sometimes we forget that life's all about the journey, not the destination. My teacher would disagree though, she'd say it was about the future. Screw the future, right? I mean, we are here now, if the future's what we make of it, then there's no problem, instead of letting things happen, we have to get behind that wheel, you know, we just have to drive...go where life takes us. It's a journey, not a destination... I forget that sometimes, I start to freak out about the future or about all the possible unknows that we might face in our lives. Again, the song...whatever tomorrow brings...you know, it doesn't matter...just go for it. It's a chance...that's what it is. Life is all about chance, and all kinds of things happen while we're driving down that road. It's a road that we all travel through, for some of us, it's easier said than done, but we get there, to our destination, whatever that may be, anyway, enough of my ranting, my fellow moggers, I leave you with the image and the message...so, drive...

First Day...

Today feels different. Today is the first day of the rest of my life. That was totally lame. I know.I'm out of school, just graduated and I feel like the last 4 years of hard work have really paid off, I'm older, wiser, but not smarter (if you can believe that). So after working our butts off, what's the first thing any one of us do? We relax. We sit on our couch and watch some TV. Okay, maybe that's just me. People with actual lives go out and do whatever it is people with actual lives do. I wouldn't know. (If you like to sit on the couch and watch TV for disturbing amount of time, then we're buddies, how about that?). Before I have to get to the hassle that is college, another 2 year bout of hard work, I'm going to relax, dedicate my summer to perhaps 2 things: watching TV, (and the occasional video game), and play my guitar, because I've been ignoring her, and she's sitting there, just collecting dust, which kinda makes me sad, and angry at the same time, if you can imagine that. So I leave you moggers to your official business, which must be important, but just before I do that, here's a song to get you in the mood...

Army of Anyone

So In my never-ending quest to discover new bands, I stumbled upon Army of Anyone. Made up of former Stone Temple Pilots members Robert DeLeo and Dean DeLeo with Filter frontman Richard Patrick, this band rocks...I mean, you listen to their album and it's got that feel, you know? I first put it on to listen to the songs one by one and it's the kind of album that you can listen to and leave on, without skipping songs because the entire album has one consistent feel...I'm pretty sure you know what I'm talking about, anyway, since I'm always late to the party, you have probably already discovered this great band but if you haven't, check them out, you won't be disappointed. Peace out, Mogheads...

Influence...

Because I haven't been here for a while, I decided to check out the mog-o-sphere (are we still calling it that? I don't know) and I ran into Mike the Knife's post, called Linkage, (which is a great post, check it out here.)

Anyway, this post was also commented upon by another mogger, mister gary at work again. He was talking about how we sometimes check out bands that are referenced by bands we already know. That got me thinking, we all do that differently. We are all just influenced differently. I know that's common knowledge but it just hit me, just like that. By the way, you can check out mister gary at work again here.

I think my biggest influence, music wise, has to be out of all people, my father. I learned all about music history from the 60s, the 70s, and the 80s, his music tastes are so varied, so freaking odd. My childhood was just very strange, I grew up listening to music from the past, so now that I'm a little older, I have to re-visit my "past" and check out all the music I missed out on. That's what I've been doing so far, just checking out the past, while at the same time, staying in touch with the present.

I discover music the weirdest way. Hell, I'm probably not the only one. I listen to what some artists are doing now, and I get curious as to where they were a few years ago, if they were anywhere. I listen to music, like almost backwards, you know, example, I only got interested in Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine from listening to Audioslave, things like that. It's just the strangest little quirk I have, so to end this post, I really don't know why I'm sharing this, just figured I should. I'm pretty sure there are others that have that same little quirk. Love and Peace to all my fellow moggers. James.

So here I was last night, (website was overloaded so I couldn't post anything, god knows I tried), looking for something new to listen, considering the fact that my friends know nothing about good music, and I ran into several posts about a little band from L.A. I've got to say, I haven't heard anything like this in a while, which is good, so once again, I'm late to the party, a great band and I'm only now discovering them, but better late than never, they really have good buzz and I like their style, it's mellow, at least that's the way I'd describe it, so keep on rocking on, fellow moggers, and the bassist is awesome, peace out, James...

Foxytunes Planet Goes Beta

So Foxytunes has gone public with their beta, and I've got to say, it's an excellent way to listen to music, you type the name of an artist and with your page widgets, you can get stations from similiar artists with Pandora (U.S listeners only, I know, that totally sucks), Last.fm, you can view videos of the artist from Youtube, stations from Yahoo! Launchcast, it's endless, it's really an awesome idea from the minds of the guys and gals who brought us the Foxytunes. If you don't have Foxytunes, I don't know what the hell you're doing. Check it out, there's a plug-in for both the Firefox and Microsoft's lousy Internet Explorer 7. Anyway, take it from me, it's really cool although sometimes it fails to work, (it is after all, still in beta) but that should soon change, anyway, here's the full skinny straight from their blog:

That said I'm looking to spend around 500 bucks on my next one but I have no idea what I should purchase, I figure you'd guys would know, seeing as some of you are pros at this, anyway, lately I've been listening to the Foo Fighters just you know, cause I'm kind of bored with the rest of my collection, I was watching the video for "Low" on YouTube and is that Jack Black on there? check it out for yourself...

The Simpsons and my music

So today I'm watching the Simpsons, in particular, the old episode where Homer bowls a perfect game and becomes a celebrity, I'm sitting there just watching the episode with no particular thought in mind, and suddenly I hear The Doors' song "The End", I wouldn't have known the name of the song except for the fact that I have my caption turned on on my TV, the episode ends and I hurry immediately to my PC, and after a few minutes I'm listening to this song, I can't go but thinking, 'man these guys always put on the coolest music on their show', just the other day I heard Kansas' Dust in the Wind, so my question is, have any of you out there watching the simpsons just hear an awesome song that afterwards they just have to have?

Music Genome Project

So, for a few months now, I've been trying this totally awesome service from Pandora, the Music Genome Project. Since I've been so freaking busy I haven't had a chance to post anything anywhere, and that pisses off a whole lot of people, but I digress, my point is, any of my fellow Moggers out there checked the Pandora website? If you have, you totally know what I'm talking about, if you haven't check it out, it's totally awesome, free (my favorite word) and worth the time. The gist of it is, you can create customized radio stations based on a genre, an artist, hell even a single song and just chill there, the project is relatively new but they have some good ideas, anyway, later days, my music-driven, fellow nut-jobs...

Some assistance, please...

Hello, my fellow Moggers, I recently ran into a conundrum while I was looking for some music for a mix disc. The disc basically consists of songs from the 70s, you know, music from Donna Summer, Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole and Diana Ross, to mention a few, any thing else along those lines is welcomed too, I don't mind adding a couple of songs to the mix, it's an MP3 disc anyway...
So here's the problem, I'm looking for a Natalie Cole song, according to my old man, the name of the song is "Mr. Melody", right, so I did a little searching but I ran into a wall, it was at that moment, that I thought of my fellow Moggers, who knows more about music than them? So I come to you with my dilemma, is that the actual name of the song and if it's not, then does anyone have any idea as to how I can find out? If that_ is_ the actual name of the song, then on what album was it on? I know you guys won't fail me, someone out there has to have that album with that song, I know my pops didn't imagine the song but maybe it's got a different name, so thanking you in advance, this is Armitage, peace to you all, my fellow Moggers...

Saturday Night Ramblings

I probably should have posted this on Sunday, Monday, hell, even Tuesday, but I've been goofing off, so whatever. Saturday night, I went down with a couple of friends to the House of Blues, we went to see a couple of cover bands, which I gotta admit, at first, it didn't convince me, anyway, we went, I got to say it was a pretty good show, the name of the opening cover band was "Which One's Pink?" an obvious reference to Pink Floyd. The main act was Led Zepagain, who rocked the joint, it was an interesting experience altogether, both bands gave it all they got, by the end, everyone was pretty tired but we had all enjoyed ourselves, it would have ended as a great night except for the fact that my friend's car was towed and we had to sit around a open subway for around an hour, or maybe it felt like an hour, despite the minor setback it was a good night and a awesome experience

Mog Meter

It's freaking Christmas morning, everything is closed and due to a serious dosage of the Flu, I can't sleep. So with that in mind, I decided to turn on my computer and see what I can come up with, my first thoughts were to come here, to find out what the others (other Moggers) are talking about.
I don't understand how the Mog meter works, I mean how and why? Better than to spend hours looking for an answer I probably won't find (I'm not that smart), I figured I can simply ask my fellow community of Moggers who have been a part of wonderful place longer than I, a simply answer is all I desire, I know you guys will come through, and I hope your situation is better than mine....
