And the less sanitized the better

So, naturally, I prefer the Lead Belly version of Goodnight Irene

  4. JacquelineMaxine says Lead Belly's version is a folk song. He didn't need an orchestral backup to make his song shine. The Weavers didn't need it either, but someone thought it was a good idea. You put an orchestra behind a bunch of folk singers, and suddenly you don't have folk music anymore, you've got big band music. Like I said, I like it, actually I love the woman singing "ahhh" during the second go at the chorus ... but it doesn't sound like folk music. Can you imagine sitting around your campfire singing folk songs with a string quartet in the background? Now from the "Odd iPod Transitions" department: The Weaver's "Wimoweh" is followed by What Happen's Next? doing "Invisible, Inpenetrable, Ignored" on my iPod. WHN? is a thrashcore band out of the Bay Area, so that song is bit of a wake me up after the sweet harmonies on "Wimoweh". Technology is WACKY!
