Track:What A Year For A New Year
My first post here will be a hopeful one.
2008 has been a rough year all around - globally, nationally, locally. But I see lots of reasons for hope and I hope you do too.
This song is by Dan Wilson. Literally the sum total of what I know about Dan Wilson is this:
- He was in Semisonic. "Closing Time" was their big hit. They had another cool song called "All About Chemistry." I'm surprised as I write this to learn that neither of those tunes are in my iTunes library.
- He co-wrote one of the Grammy-winning tunes with the Dixie Chicks.
- His drummer in Semisonic wrote a cool book called So You Want To Be A Rock and Roll Star about their brief flirtation with fame. It's funny and smart. It's also a sobering account of how soul-destroying and boring life in rock and roll can be.
Anyway, here's goodbye to 2008 and looking forward to a better 2009. It's a good year for a new year.
