MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

T.S.O.L.’s Dance with Me is the hands down best Horror Punk album to come out of the Soc Cal punk scene in the early 1980’s. It’s better than the closest runner up, Sleep in Safety by 45 Grave, it’s better than Christian Death, and even the post Walk Among Us Misfits albums. Released in 1981 it was the group’s first full-length album and covers all of the horror punk themes in just less than thirty minutes. The music blasts from faster hardcore punk to slower almost crooned numbers that each has their own feel but all still hang together. The classic track from this record is Code Blue, a necrophilia tale it’s got a great sing along chorus and a great opening riff. Triangle is another classic that tells the tale of a resigned spy whose paranoia that he is never going to be free drives him over the edge, think The Prisoner. T.S.O.L never recorded another Horror Punk record but after Dance With Me, they never needed too.

Next: White Zombie!

Yep, great album! I was actually in a band in '91-'92 with Jack called Tender Fury. I begged him to let us play 80-times and we did it like twice! Our shows would be full of people yelling "code Blue" and he would just berate the crowd and say "If you want to hear those songs just go home and play the record!". That's probably one of the reason's Jack Grisham is not a household word like say...Mike Ness. Jack is one of the greatest frontmen ever! He even ran for gov of Ca!

I don't think I picked up the whole album but I at least have several tracks off it. Once, I went to a bar and they were doing a punk rocker karaoke night and someone did Code Blue. It was nifty.:)

there used to be a neo-lounge group called black velvet flag that covered code blue. they also did institutionalized by suicidal tendencies and a bunch of other classic punk rock tunes.

I have that Black Velvet Flag cd around somewhere, I liked their Code Blue cover, but I think they did a better job with The Jam and Fear. There is also a Manic Hispanic take on the song called Code Brown, and I think the first time I ever heard the song was the Bouncing Soul's cover of it...
