Like an alien or a pod person some things just take time to gestate, and my true appreciation for the band Ghoulsquad has been on of those things. They are another band that even though I wasn’t in love with their music, I kept buying releases from them. They hale from Massachusetts, and play melodic punk with the usual horror themes, and that would put them in the category of the rest of the misfit youth out there, but they manage to avoid that trap with a few simple musical turns. First they don’t go for that over the top tough guy thing. Second they vary their sound, so that you have up temp rock/ punk tunes, but you also have a few slower crooned that work well. If nothing else they have written what to me is the best song ever about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a soaring dusty feeling classic rock style song with just the right build and release and it’s just right. Of course they can be found on the web at http://www.myspace.com/ghoulsquad and ghoulsquad.com
Next… well I am going to try and post something before I head out the door, but my list says Phantasm
