Let’s bow our heads for a moment and recall the madman, his Lordship, David Sutch, who left us all too soon… ok, now for his legacy, he was many things, but for our purposes let’s talk about his music. Starting off he worked with the mad genius Joe Meek, who produced a whole lot of weird horror music in his own right, and then recorded may of the greats of the UK rock scene, Jimmy Paige and Keith Moon. What the Screamin’ Lord brought to the scene was the theatrical stage presence, a better than average voice and a lot of fun songs. The early stuff he recorded with Joe Meek: Jack The Ripper, Monster in Pink Tights, She’s Fallen in Love With a Monster Man, ‘Til the Following Night and All Black and Hairy, are really a link between the novelty of songs like The Monster Mash and the more serious horror music of bands like Blue Oyster Cult and Black Sabbath. The songs have more than a hint of true menace and a bit of danger. Unfortunately few of these tunes are available, but you should check out the ones that are out there.
