I was going to write this whole political thing about the Baby Boomers, the fact that I might vote for a Democrat for the first time in my life and all of that... but this is a music site, and it's a sunday, and thats when we talk covers....
first off, anyone that digs covers should take a listen to the Coverville podcast...
One of my all time fave tunes is Poncho and Lefty... by Towns Van Zandt... the song is most famous for the version recorded by Willie Neleson and Merle Haggard back in the early 1980s... I was a late comer to the tune, I think it was the Hammerlock cover that really captured me with it's raw biker punk howl... but I also like the Willie and Merle version,
I have heard other version of the tune, but I think that because it's a song about outlaws that it's best when sung by people with at least a little of that rough grit in their... in fact I think the version of the tune that most sticks with me is in the film Be here to love me where Kris Kristofferson growls out the first two lines of the the tune...
Livin' on the road my friend, is gonna keep you free and clean
And now you wear your skin like iron, and your breath is hard as kerosene
perfect...

I have the willie and merle version and have loved it since first listen. I have not seen this video before, and it is fitting in quite nicely with my mood for the night!
