MOG

I have been making my way though the third season of Veronica Mars while also revisiting the second season.. I know it's a little strange.. anyway, in the past I have had more than a few people ask me what's up with the fact that I dig the show, and this is my answer...

Most of the time I just throw out the "Spunky Girl Detective, what's not to like?" line, but in truth is much deeper than that..

First off, I did not go to a normal High School, and thank god for that, but I still feel a missing connection to my peers because most of them did have the ... Quote Normal High School Experience Unquote... this in many ways has made me a fan of mass media versions of High School, including a love of films like Heathers, Pump Up the Volume, Can't Buy Me Love, and their ilk.

Secondly, there is the Lebowski Factor, and that's the simple fact that Lebowski is so often referenced on the show, lines from the film thrown about, and even Veronica watching the film and being told she needs to stop being the Dude. Now I love Lebowski, and think it's the best Noir film of the modern era, and that any show smart enough to see that it's connected is ok with me..

and speaking of smart, have I mentioned that the show is smart? not only smart, but smart with out being full of it's self and managing to have a sense of humor...

I guess the last big thing that I like about the show is that it tackles class issues head on..over and over and over again, and shows clearly that money can't buy happiness or protection from the darkness....
