WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

I was drinking Brandy Bailes on the rocks

If you have been reading me posts for a while you might recall that I mentioned hearing a preview of the new record by "The Flaming Sideburns":http://www.theflamingsideburns.com/ while drinking at Bar Loose prior to heading out to see Radio Birdman. That 10 minutes of listening to rough mixes on a dying iPod was enough to let me get a sense of what the Sideburns were up to with the record....Now I have had a chance to listen to the record in full and get into the grove of the tunes and it's time to testify.... if you have never heard The Flaming Sideburns they are a Hi Energy Rock and Roll group from Helsinki Finland, who traffic in jams that extend beyond the normal Hi Energy markers of The Stooges, The MC5 and Radio Birdman.... the Sonics, the Waliers (not the bob marley ones, the fab instro and garage act from Tacoma) and Little Richard can also be heard in their mix along with a shot of soul music....Now this new album... first off it's killer and a perfect place for the new listener to jump on board, it's got the rev and thunder of the classic Sideburns stuff, but also some more laid back smoother fuzzy tunes. 'Roky Mountian Sidegates' and 'Rock'n'roll bang!' are the two tunes that I have listened to the most from the record. Roky Mountian Sidegates feels like the Stooges 'Gimmie Danger' with just a little more fuzz and 'Rock'n'roll Bang!' has a swagger and 70's hardrock beat... that I want to say is something that Free or The James Gang might have written.... Note: you can listen to a couple of their tracks on their "Myspace":http://www.myspace.com/theflamingsideburns page which also has their very cool spanish language cover of the Radio Birdman track 'Man with Golden Helmet'
