Artist:
1913…1914…1915…1916…1917Distance, recordings in a little tin box, mystical and chirping. It’s Stiffs. Inc. The short lived masters of all that pre and post WW I advances in science and culture. It’s all Weimar republic, German Impressionism. Weird angles, drawn faces, white, white faces, you know the ones that haunt me so beautifully… jerky post war machinery, whispering intrusions into a vanishing world. Quick, Clean Efficient, that’s what the back of their Nix Nought Nothing record says. Song titles like: Chelsea, Space Nothing, Engineering, Quick Watson!, and Mary Pickford, marry Me kind of give an indication of what is contained with in. it’s unpolished pop, it’s punk with out distortion, or a lot of distortion. This is the music that should have been playing while Houdini worked, or while Shackelton’s men shivered away, waiting for rescue. This is what should have been echoing down the hall of some disintegrating rooming house while Lovecraft pecked away at the keys of a typewriter, spinning his tales of madness and horror. It’s perfect for the hazy summer nights, mist hanging in the air as the light of the street lamps illuminated the vapor. So drink that last slug of iced lemon aid, laced with something that blocks neural receptors…
