Call of the West

Posted over 5 years ago
I guess that I am in a fractured western mood today.... In the last couple of years I have become a fan of the 80's group "Wall of Voodoo":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall_of_voodoo and "Stan Ridgway":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stan_Ridgway (who was one of the founders of the band).. I assume that most of you have at least heard Mexican Radio... a great song [the best version I have heard is by "El Vez":http://mog.com/music/El_Vez/Graciasland"]. There was much more to the band, with their dark noir new wavy other worldly dust choked vibe. Their songs often told stories of the failed, those who reached for fame, glory, and fortune only to meet with bad luck along the way. It's the early work of the band, guided by Ridgeway that I find the most interesting. There is something in his story telling and his writing that hooks into my soul, kicking at the back of my brain. If you are into Devo, Fear Factory, or just stange pulp post punk, Wall of Voodoo should fit nicely in your collection....
