WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

You need more education....

Posted over 3 years ago
you can read the Wiki history of Turbonegro "here":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TurbonegroI first really became aware of Turbonegro when I made a trip with my brother and Big Tony (from Mazinga) to Washington DC to see the band Adam West play live for the first time back around 1998 or so. A friend in the UK had sent my brother a tape of Turbonegro's two best records Ass Cobra and Apocalypse Dudes we listened to that tape on the drive, and when we arrived in DC and met up with Adam West singer Jake Starr he was also playing the album, and thus it was that Turbonegro entered my life.Musically they are a mix of dark glammy punk, think of the best of Alice Cooper with a lot of early 70's bowie, GG Aillin, and a huge dose of (all fake I assure you) Homo Erotism tossed in and you might come close to what they sound like. As of late their albums have become more pop and accessible, but still worth checking out. I think that the wiki entry gives a better overview of the band than I could so check that out and if you are in mind to hear some Turbonegro check out Apocalypse Dudes. The last thing I want to add, is I can't think of any other band in recent history that has managed to attract the cult following that they have... the only band that I know of that has ever managed to pull of the same trick with their following is The Misfits with their Fiendclub... but even there I doubt that there ever were as many chapters of the Fiendclub as there are local Turbonegro clubs,,,

  2. 1234chainsaw says Their fan club is called Turbo-Jugend. Despite its Nazi-ish connotations, the name is so absurd that it's always shit and giggles for me to hear it pronounced out loud with a Teutonic accent. Anyone else find it funny? (The homo-eroticism is so over the top funny that you can't for a moment think that it's serious.)

  3. Iren says Just to add a few things.... Yes the fan club is called Turbo-Jugend.. which basically means Turbo Youth.. and I do have my own patch for Turbo-Jugend MLSP (Twin Cities) somewhere around here. I am green with envy that my brother has a Turbo-Jungend Kallio patch.. that's a part of Helsinki for everyone out there besides Chainsaw... Also while writing this I have been listening to Never is Forever... which is much better than I remembered...

  7. Marta says Sorry, I was educated by Bam Margera... I am the proud owner of *Party Animals* but that's the only album available in Australia - which totally sucks for me!

  8. White and Nerdy says In regards to the Nazi-like, Tuetonicness...perhaps this is ironic, but the Germans LOVE this band. You can't swing a dead cat in Germany without hitting at least 3 Turbojugend denim jackets. It's crazy. The whole homo-cult thing around this band is just TOO funny. By the way, my patch isn't from Kallio. It's a Turbojugend Tampere patch.

  9. Universalis says A mix of Kiss and the Village people with a punkier attitude 8-) Not bad at all, and these are strongly anti-racists, shall i say humanists ? Cool stuff. CU
