record of the year so far? Waylon Forever

Posted over 3 years ago

I have liked a couple of albums this year, They are headed for my super-secret best of 2008... a list that I plan to print in 2018 per the 'it takes ten years to be classic' rule...a and I hope that everything on that list will still make the cut a decade later... but honestly, this one song, this one take, I might just go ahead and call it the song of the year... and what do you know it's over 10 years old.... it's a classic... and some, some are calling it Waylon's Hurt.... here it is a real summation of the man's life in music... Oh and thanks to Shooter for putting this out for us...

It is ashame that Waylon didn't live long enough to get the full Rick Rubin rehabilitation treatment that John Cash got. He has the same world weary, monster talent aura around him. Waylon and an acoustic woulda made for some great listening.

this is a guy who just didn't give a shit about nashville...but this song also talks about the downside of the "outlaw" thing. very nice find.

My Very first concert was Johnny Cash but the opening act waas a then not well known WAYLON JENNINGS. This was in the  early mid 60's.  The person who brought ALL the country acts to South Florida was a Bign time local radio Personality who went by "Cracker Jim".n  If there was a country artist booked in South Florida, it was by Him and Him alone.  He WAS THE Country music Mogul there backn then. His name conjures upn the  Country Redneck that he was.

Now when time came for the concert, mr Cracker Jim did not want to let young Waylon Jennings even Step on the stage and tried to cancel his act, But Johnny Cash demanded he be allowed to play.  All this because to Cracker Jim's disdain when he met Waylon for the first time he saw a "Hippy looking" fellow who didn't belong to sing country Music. "

When he finally came on stage to introduce Waylon he said " Folks, this next person should Not be here but I am Bound to let him sing, but he will have to introduce himself because I refuse to introduce him to My stage! "

The Audience was Quiet as he started to sing but warmed up to him Rapidly as they found he was truly a gifted singer.

That was my first introduction to Waylon and I'll Allways remember his "Outlaw" attitude and manor on the outside and the warm sensitive artist on the inside.

    Thanks
