Back in April the NPR Show "Studio 360":http://www.studio360.org/episodes/2008/04/04 did a story on the emerging number of bands from Sweden who are making waves in the American music scene. I have also started to run into people who profess that they are fans of Swedish Pop Music. Now I have been following the music coming out of Sweden (along with Finland and Norway) for about the last 10 years and don't know if it's fitting or if it's just following the rule that it takes 10 years for the world to catch up to what's going on but the pop, punk, metal and rock exports from the land of the midnight sun are starting to get their due....Honestly as I have written about several times here my interest is in the harder rock and roll part of the scene, but that's not to say that I don't also dig the odd pop ditty or the thundering heavy metal rumble. So here is the question-Swedish Pop- fad, overblown, just getting press, or is this the future of music? Also what's the Swedish Group that you are digging?Ok here are some links to info on swedish music."Music of Sweden from Wiki":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_Sweden"Hello! Suprise":http://www.hellosurprise.com/"It's a Trap":http://www.itsatrap.com/index.phpthoughts, comments, plane tickets to Arlanda?

  1. brittanybf says I like me some Jens Lekman, The Shout Out Louds and what I have heard of Jose Gonzales. I wonder the same thing though, is it the future of music or a huge fad? So far, jury's still out.

  2. mollifire says i guess i'm just not a pop fan in any language. i went to the wiki and checked out the names and none of them are in my music collection. however, i LOVE Swedish metal and electronica!! and i would love to get my ears on some Swedish rap. it's a great question that you are posing and this is definitely a great time to consider it. Sweden def has some rising pop stars taking over the charts recently.

  4. Anna says The Hives (not pop, but they are my favourite.....), Mando Diao, Peter Bjorn and John, Shout Out Louds, Kent aren't bad either, Ida Maria as well. Hm, I might be forgetting some. I haven't listened to her yet, but she's getting to be well known: http://mog.com/FluxCapacitor/blog/136505
