When I was a kid, one of the first bands I really latched onto was Creedence Clearwater Revival...I guess it was a combination of that swamp-rock sound, John Fogerty's swampy, yet ferverent voice, and, more than anything else, some damn good songwriting. Oddly, I started with the lesser-known Pendulum album - I guess because it was their most current release when I started buying albums...of cour
A tip of the hat to the late (d. 1985) Mr. Ian Stewart, namechecked in the titile of the fun lil' Led Zeppelin track featured here. For those of you who aren't too familiar, Ian Stewart was originally slated to be a member of the Rolling Stones as their keyboardist (!), but was dispatched post haste to the rubbish bin by their new manager, Andrew Loog Oldham, because his straight-laced look didn't
Due to some computer malfeasance, I haven't had the LUXURY of being able to post anything on here since, well...since AUGUST. So, without further ado...Violent Soho are a new band from Australia...they are noisy, aren't they?
I've had some computer issues, and, as a result, haven't added any posts in a little over three months. I'm going to try to make up for it with a great cover from one of my favorite '80's' (hate to pigeonhole, but...) artists, Mr. Paul Young. In one of my former lives, I was house DJ in a very popular club in Dallas, and I almost always used this early in the evening as one of my 'warmup' tunes.
I've been a big fan of this guy since I got my hands on his debut album, 'Too Long In the Wasteland', about 17 years ago. This song pretty much says it all, and leaves no stone unturned doing it.
Center focus on this track is placed on the rhythmic underpinnings of the drums, supplemented by deep bass and sparse 'melodic' leads provided by heavily processed guitars and synthesizers. The music is very dark, experimental and introspective and is therefore exactly to my liking. Be prepared for some dark private mind-films to play along when listening to this music.
Here is an AMAZING Minimatic remix of 'Che Les Ye-Ye's', by the King of the hipsters, Mr. Serge Gainsbourg...enjoy, and I defy you to refrain from shaking your booty to this...
