I used to believe and still do that it is not a party unless Bandages by the Hot Hot Heat is played. It is just one of those songs that you can't listen to without smiling and personally I have a lot of great memories associated with it. Hot Hot Heat: BangagesAnyway, back to the subject at hand, I received an advance copy of their new album Happiness Ltd. last Monday and finally got around to listening to it this weekend inorder to fully digect it. To be perfectly honest I expected to hate it, the bands sophmore album Elevator was decent but lacked the magic of Make Up the Breakdown (their debut), most likely due to the departure of Dante Decaro(now of my beloved Wolf Parade). I expected to hate it due to the choice of their first single Let Me In, a cheesy little pop number targeted directly to teenagers and the MTV scripted drama shows/Grey's Anatomy/other bull shit shows. I thought that HHH that I have been listening for almost 6 years was gone falling short of the promise they once showed, completely sold out into the corporate machine, or to paraphrase stereogum 'Dante made a great decision to get out when he did'. But after giving the record a few spins I excited to say that I enjoyed the new album. Steve Bays delievers his trade mark yelps and even trys to sing a few songs. Highlights of the album include Conversation, Give Up?, Harmonicas and Tambourines, and a reworked version of 5 Times Out of 100 (which origionally appeared of their amazing 2002 EP Knock Knock Knock). Although they will most likely never create anything as magnetic as Make Up was, Happiness shows that the band is continuing to grow and develope and I'm curious to see what this year will bring for them.(This being their most comercial release to date.) The Hot Hot Heat are on tour now in support of Happiness Ltd. which will be released on Tuesday September 11, 2007 and they will be playing the TLA in Philly on November 14, 2007.The HHH will also be playing Jimmy Kimmel on Friday September 14, 2007Hot Hot Heat: NME Interview
