A few weeks ago I went down to Memphis, TN to see Eddie Vedder. This was my 6th Vedder show since he started touring solo for Into The Wild last year...I've been incredible lucky. This time around I picked the Southern show because I have a few friends down there so I thought I'd take a few days off and make a vacation out of it. I actually got to MEET EDDIE later that night while hanging with friends at the Peabody hotel. After being a fan since I was 15 years old, this was quite the experience. I got to shake his hand, and thank him, and Ed thanked me for wearing a shirt with a peace sign on it. It all happened so fast, but we were all high from the experience for hours afterwards.
In 4 days I saw 3 States... Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas. I went to Graceland, Sun Studios, The Lorraine Motel (where Dr. King was murdered), The Crossroads on HWY 61 where Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil, and other cool rock n roll sites with some of my best friends.
The Eddie show had some special moments, namely a beautiful version of Forever Young, and an Elvis cover of Can't Help Falling in Love that made me tear up like a dork. Liam Finn as an opener was perfect once again. The great show, my 3rd row seats, and meeting Ed that night was amazing. It really sucked to go back home, even though the heat down there was beyond anything I've ever experienced. To be on holiday in that heat is great, but I don't know how people can live there, whoo.
Sneaking a pic of Eddie...no cameras allowed.
