WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Von Bondies - Ottawa, ON May 30, 2009

Posted 5 months ago

I went to this show last minute. A friend was going, and it was only $13.00 so I said why not. I had only heard of the band because of the Jack White incident, but It was something to do on a Saturday night.

The first band was Lightning Love...more people were watching the hockey game, but they were ok for a high school talent show. Is that mean? It was cute.

Next was a band from Nova Scotia called Dog Day who were a step way above the first band. They were chanelling Sonic Youth and Joy Division at times, but still had their own sound. Not bad.

Unfortunately there was a stupid curfew at Zaphod's that night, so the Von Bondies would only play for an hour which is stupid, why have the first band, but anyways.

They had a lot of energy, and sounded pretty good. I finally found out that they're the ones who do the theme song for Rescue Me, my mom and I always wonder about that when we watch the show. Nothing groundbreaking or super original, but it was a fun night out. Catchy songs to rock out too, and everyone had a good time. The singer was very chatty and funny. You can tell his mouth has gotten him into trouble more than once. They were almost good enough for me to buy something and get it signed by their singer, but not quite...

PJ Harvery next week....
