"What's a knockout like you doing in a computer generated gin joint like this?"

Jonathan Frakes said this line as Commander Riker on Star Trek TNG.

He's from Bethlehem. So is Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) star player for Liberty and at one time he was engaged to a friend of the family.

Danny Kim from Lost and a Star Trek episode was in my wifes class in high school.

Mario Andretti lives just a bit north of me. Everyone in the Lehigh Valley has an Andretti story to tell.

Child actors Jonathan Thomas (Home Improvement) and Christine Taylor (Hey Dude).

Jazz musician Keith Jarrett came from Allentown and Mulgrew Miller still calls Easton home.

We got Larry Holmes and Chuck Bednarik. Slly Jesse Raphael, and Carson Kressley.

And if that isn't high brow enough for you, Stephen Vincent Benet calls Bethlehem his hometown as does Bernie O'Hare III. son of the Bernie O'Hare Jr. from Kurt Vonneguts Slaughter House Five.

I know it's not Funk but if this track doesn't make you shake your ass, you should be considered clinically dead.

Random Facts About Me .......

- I collect fortune cookie fortunes with the hope that one day I will write the 'definitive' collection of fortunes. It's a labor of love and strangeness.

- I have never being farther West (in the US) than Chicago. It's ironic because of all the miles of Earth that has passed below me ... half of the United States is still a mystery to me.

- I love jerky. The sodium is murder to my blood pressure. Like hot sauce and beer I have tried all kinds of dried meat. To this day my fave is homemade deer jerky.

- If you didn't already hit play, do it now. Chill sounds from an ex 'Deee-lite' member. If anyone can recognize the guest 'voice' on this track they can have my one and only 'zarpex' point. fistula you sit on your hands. I know that you know who it is.

- I weep alot during movies. Some flicks choke me up. What can I say? I am not always the tough guy you cats know me to be.

- I wish for a blizzard. I love snow. I can't fathom a winter without it.

- I have no chest hair. What ever shows up gets shaved off otherwise I would look like a freak of nature when I take off my shirt. Like a teenager who is trying to look manly. Like a 'comb over' for my nipples.

- I was taught how to play chess by a Belorussian. He was a competent player, way better than most. Unfortunately it is a skill I have since lost and wish I had it again.

- I'm bored. Can you tell?

- I believe trust and faith are interchangeable. Imagine if Shrub would have called it a 'trust based' initiative. How would that have gone over? I'm sorry I promised no politics, I'm just saying.

- I am a diver. I've seen underwater vistas that would stop your heart. Life in different medium where the law of gravity has given way to formulas of buoyancy.

- 2 things that really creep me out. Helgramites and Hag fish. Eccck! That's some ugly wildlife.

- I am afraid of heights. It wasn't always that way, it's just in my advanced years I have become more cautious.

- I love roller coasters. Rolling heights are no problem. It's the static ones that wig me out.

Groove to the sound.

And Now For Something Completely Different ...

I have been toying with the idea of taking a break from MOG for awhile. Why, because after 370 + posts I felt like there is nothing new under the sun to talk about.

Of course I know that's not entirely true. There is always something else to discuss even if it's as mundane as what I had for lunch today. BTW I had a gyro with extra tzatziki sauce, extra onion, and no tomato. Grill the pita hard so there is a crisp to it. When I say the 'usual' Tsam and Johnny know how I like it. They deliver and I am in heaven for the 40 minutes it takes to chow down my favorite fruit. 40 minutes cause there is a lot of conversation that comes with eating at Tsam's place. It's the joint the Bethlehem motorcycle cops like to eat at as well as the local Greek Orthodox priests.

Toss in the sweet treat that doesn't get served to the other customers and isn't on the menu and now you have culinary bliss at my local Greek eatery.

When I'm not clogging the arteries with Greek food I am enjoying sushi at the Fairgrounds with Frank Fan. Frank has been making sushi for 37 years. He popped my raw fish cherry with the buttery goodness of white fin tuna about 8 years ago and I haven't looked back. When I eat there it's good conversation and a lot of bowing that never gets old. I always walk away with the latest Pocky for the kids. To this day Frank's 'dragon roll' is the standard to which I hold other sushi's to. Watching him do his thing is always a delight. Sometimes I get my hands in there and help him during the lunch rush when I have time. Believe it or not I can roll seaweed with the best of them.

So anyway I am going to put the kibosh on the the politics for a bit and focus on the life I have and the people who make it worth living. 'My Hometown' posts have suffered during the presidential campaign and I want to get back to some of the things that help you understand me more. Comments be damned, I am who I am and that isn't going to change.

The 'I am' you have come to know and love is back in action and I am not going anywhere.

Give it up for Friday and all it's Funky glory.

The Ways Of White Folk ......

We all have currents that run within us. Some currents drive our creativity, some lend motion to feelings of empathy and anger. These forces that shape us as individuals come from just about everything we do. It boggles my mind to think of the things we put into our hand baskets of personality. I could explain my belief about the great connectedness of life and how 'beingness' is simply a form of immortality that goes beyond the memories of days now past that is subject to evolution like the species that populate our Earth.

"I've known rivers:
I've known rivers ancient as the world and older than the flow of human blood in human veins.

My soul has grown deep like the rivers."

Langston Hughes, 'The Negro Speaks Of Rivers' 1920

In a nutshell, Everything you can 'do' either makes an addition in one column or places a deficeit in another. By incredibly small and sometimes large increments we grow and 'do' into to the people we are right now. You can't stop it. It just happens.

All this isn't to say the person you are can't be directed in some way. Humans are amendable. If we choose a path for ourselves we will look for favorable conditions. I think we naturally try to reinforce (make an addition) our lives by choosing activities that offer the least resistance for what we already believe.

Hey, you know where I'm coming from. If you don't, we can hash that out in comments. Can you tell I'm in a contemplative mood?

I've been thinking (like you haven't heard me say that before). I was thinking about my whiteness and the shame that rides with it.

With a last name like Heilman there is a built in prejudice towards race superiority, honestly it is a curse for me. Just saying 'Heil' brings to mind darker times in our collective history. What can I say, I didn't pick it, it just happened. That's not me at all, still having the name has defined me as a person. I have to work a little harder than the Smiths and Joneses to display my path and how I feel.

What can I say? The current of race and it's effects on me have been overwhelming as of late.

Thank you Troy. I feel like have a debt to repay, let's hope it is good enough.

March Of The Obamatons .....

11- 6 - 09 This morning Alex and I started the 9 mile walk to the Army/Navy store in Whitehall I was told by an 'R' there may be some ammunition buried behind the store. If we find it I promised that I would give the 'R' a box of 12 gauge shells. Tami and Bay stayed behind to scavenge around the Westgate area for canned goods and warmer clothes. Winter has been brutal since the first snow in August which means I'll have to look for firewood along the Monocacy that is before our supply runs out. I'm not looking forward to that trip. The 'Dems' are patrolling the area more and more looking for people who come out for fresh water. If they catch me or Tami I think we'll be safe from the camps but the 'R' aren't as lucky. If the Dems catch them it means death or worst, a lifetime in the coal mines up state.

11 - 7 We got the shells and some parkas. I met a fella from Allentown who was looking for the same stash. He did have much to him radiation poisoning is my guess. Sunken eyes and sores on his arm gave it away even though he tried to hide it. We talked about the missile that hit Jersey in May. We agreed that it was meant for NYC but somehow detonated about 85 miles south of us right on top of Fort Dix.

11- 10 My uncle Bob got word to me that he and Jeff found a cave outside Lenhartsville. Somehow we have to make it there. I think its our only hope to survive the next few months. We can crowd in and Bob says it's so far out that the 'brownshirts' won't see the smoke from our fires. We have been charcoaling the wood to minimize the smoke when we cook. Thankfully airplanes and helicopters are a luxury even the Dems can't afford right now. No fuel and no one to fly the things. I miss the smell of gasoline.

11 - 16 Tami is not doing so well. She lost another tooth today and she seems weaker. I know she threw up after dinner, she said it was because of the smell from the graves that are 4 blocks from our shelter. I hope she doesn't go like Lindsay did. My little girl in agony bleeding from her eyes.... I can't think about it now. I have to be strong.

11 - 21 Somehow Alex got the radio working again. 10 years old and he is a genius. We tuned in to the nightly propaganda speech from Prime Minister Polosi. She went on about how things were looking up around the country. Easy for her to say. She's in a bunker with the Chancellor Obama and company. Why couldn't just one of those Iranian bombs hit 1600 Pennsylvania Ave? I don't think we would be in such an awful way if they had. No they flew them to all the hot spots on the East Coast.

11 - 25 Wow it's hard to image that just eight months ago we were living decent lives. Shortly after Biden was assassinated Polosi took over as the next in the chain of command (many of us believe she had a lot to do with Joe's death). Soon after she took the reins Congress passed the 'Gun Hunt Bill' only because the 700% tax on ammo didn't stop the sale of assault weapons. The 'Gun Hunt' was a reaction to the economy tanking after the Dow hit 5000 and China suddenly cashed in all of those T bills it had. One day bread was a buck and a quarter the next day it was 78 dollars. That's when my family started to steal food to survive. Dad was right, God rest his soul. One more month till Christmas. I made a bow and some arrows for Alex and Bay as a present. Hopefully they will get some use out of it.

11 - 26 Tami is really bad. Alex and I think it is a good idea to take her to the Dems medical facility. I am not allowed any medical care because I am an Libertarian and that just saves me from being shot on sight like the Republicans. We will take her there tonight. I will pin her voter registration card onto her jacket and that should at least get her in the door. If triage thinks she can be saved they will give her the care she needs. If not I don't know what we will do. Bay is not handling the situation well.

12 - 2 Me and the boys have started for the cave in Lenhartsville. It’s a 40 mile walk. Bob says his girls are there as well as Elaine and Jeff and Steve. Sadly Anna and her two kids died from the radiation. Aunt Chris was taken by the brownshirts to a camp in Ohio where we think she is to be trained for combat in the Dems army. My mom and dad were killed in the 'Gun Hunt'. Dad was firing out a basement window and mom was feeding him ammo. In the end it was a grenade that did them in. Who knows where they are buried. Probably some ditch in Alburtis.

12 - 11 Alex and Bay got their Christmas present early. Out here in deer country, I thought it was wise to give them a head start getting meat for the months ahead.

12 - 13 When I woke up this morning I found a clump of hair on my pillow. I didn't tell the boys or anyone else for that matter. .

12 - 19 I was coughing up blood chunks when I woke up early today. Everyone else was sleeping. After I got the fire going again I walked outside in the pitch black. Nothing to be heard but silence. The snow blanket was fresh and I remembered the days when we be the first ones out on our toboggans sledding and laughing on such a snow. Those days are behind us now.

Tit Willow? Dickey Bird! Exactly What Was Jim Henson Trying To Say .....

For 5 years in the late 70's early 80's The Muppet Show had me tuned in every week. Now it has my kids in it's spell.

While watching the shows again (this time on dvd) I am getting the jokes that previously went over my head as a 10 year old and I had this thought. Could this be intentional? Might Henson have included the right mix of slapstick and innuendo to keep both parents and children enthralled for the half hour the show was on?

While researching this idea I came across more than a few references to Tex Avery and his stint at Warner Bros. for his directorship at Merrie Melodies. The cartoons of Bugs and Daffy have the same appeal to both audiences with it's clever mix of physical comedy and tongue in cheek remarks. The same could be said for the brillant toon The Ren And Stimpy Show created by the mad genius John Kricfalusi.

Anyway I just want to say that I am seeing some of these episodes for the first time, again.

Enjoy Frank Oz as Sam the Eagle and Henson as Rowlf the piano playing dog.

What Have We Wrought ....

Excerpts from a dead man's dairy.

11.5 - We went to Mom and Dad's for dinner. The kids were off the hook but that was mom's fault for sugaring them up half an hour after we got there. After dinner we sat down to watch the election returns. Dad started in on his beef with the Democrats. He knew Tami voted for Obama. She got the brunt of his words. At one point he got into full Political Scientist mode. He had his ducks in a row and was ready for a fight. He knew as a Libertarian eventually I would agree with him on something then it would be 2 on 1. That's why I switched from Democrat. I found some truth in what the Republican Party believes.

11.7 - Man gas has come down. Looking forward to our trip in January. The money we budgeted to gas suddenly seems like too much. We may get to eat out one more night if this keeps up for another month. NPR had a report on the rise in the stock market. There's usually a boost when a new Prez is elected. Next time I get to move money in my 401 I think I'll put more in stocks.

11.17 - While looking for some points to hit Jeff with I came across the business schedule for the 110th Congress Senate calendar. When they reconvene sometime in early January some items on the docket are;

Abortion gag order's
Pay raises for Congress
Another Economics stimulus package
4 bills for FISA
Human cloning
Mexican trucks
Slavery, apology for
Troop redeployment

11.20 - The Dow closed at 9789 tonight. My broker is confident about the break over 10.000 will happen a few days before Christmas. I'll probably pull some cash for a bike that Alex wanted. The guys at the Pack Meeting had me scared. While I have some friends in the parents some of the other families seem to keep me at a distance. 2 in particular the fireman and the real estate agent. These guys are hardcore Republican. At least with the fireman I can relate on matters of Homeland Security the agent and his ideas for a good economy are just alien to me. Being someone in real estate you would think he would have a better grasp on where our money goes when it comes to the government. For me property, local, and state make up the largest bill when it came to tax time. Not to mention my Pennsy's sales tax.

11.23 - I'm making pecan pies for Thanksgiving. Baylor and I went to get everything together for a night of baking. Tami churns out cheesecake and I do pecan pies. While we were out we talked about our trip. I asked him if he wanted to rent a boat while we were in Tarpon Springs. He was way hip to the idea so it looks like we are going to see some sea life on our trip. Tami has this trip planned for little those little surprises. I didn't commit with Bay but I told him it was just an idea we were kicking around. With gas at 2.06 it's a possibility.

11.27 - Oh man was it blood bath today. Rebekah and Tami got hammered by everyone. Cousin Steve had helped them out but he always seemed underhanded about his remarks. My uncles crucified them.

11.28 - Tonight we were full of the Christmas spirit. Baylor got to light the Christmas tree at city hall. He and the Mayor pulled the switch. The lights are on in the Christmas City. Lots of fun and to much Glühwein.

12.1 - The market closed at 9990 today. The news expected a rally tomorrow, enough to break 10,000 again. Wall Street actually quoted Rush when he said if you turn this number upside down it is 666 O and it's a foreshadowing of the coming apocalypse. Seriously, who believes that crap. Only those with nothing else to lose that's who. Fat bastard.

12.5 - Alex and I went shopping for Tami. He has saved up some dough to get her a present by himself. I told him if we found something that he really liked I would help him out if it was more than he had. It was our secret. Gas went up 6 cents and the market closed at 9813. I hope gas doesn't continue to go up till January.

Spys With His Eye Something That Starts With Old ......

Just picked up Season 1 of 'I Spy'. For 13 dollars no less.

In 2002 Hollywood cannibalized this classic.

LA has a way of gutting my most beloved childhood TV memories.

Wiki has a bang up entry for 'I Spy'.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Spy

The 'unofficial' site can be found here.

http://ispy65.tripod.com/home.htm

And if your really bored try this site. It's fan fiction.

http://trickster.org/truetrue/

Music was composed by Earle Hagen. Check out an interview with the man who gave us the themes for 'Mod Squad', 'Eight Is Enough', 'That Girl', 'The Dick Van Dyke Show', and 'Gomer Pyle USMC'.

Can you dig the Earle Hagen sound?

Passive/Aggressive ....

In 'carne' speak, a blockhead is someone who is able to guide an object (usually a masonry spike) through their anatomy (usually the nasal cavity) creating the illusion that they are impervious to bodily harm and physical pain. If you have never seen the trick you are missing out. With the right setting and patter (stage talk) the effect is interesting to say the least. It's something I can't do. Can't do or won't, take your pick.

That there is Melvin Burkhart he's the original blockhead. You can mourn the 7th anniversary of his passing on the 18th of this month. When I think of sideshow freaks this is the guy that comes to mind second.

One of my high school buddies was a blockhead. His face is the one I think of first. He stuck nails in his nose along with some other items such as pencils, pens, feathers, screwdrivers, chopsticks, and necklaces. The necklaces were a great ice breaker with the ladies. Someone would dare Bobby to do something crazy like do a standing flip or snort a necklace. When he snorted a chain he would take it up his nose and spit through his mouth, then clasp it like any other piece of jewelry. Depending on who you were the reaction ranged from disgust and revulsion to "Wow that is the freakiest think I have ever seen". If the girls were disgusted Bobby would sneeze the chain out and hand it back mucous and all. If the chicks dug it he would wipe it off before he gave it back. We were just 2 geeks on the make trying to win the affections of the fair sex by all means at our disposal. Essentially we made it up as we went along. We listened to wind and riffed it.

Our friendship was the kind that when we called each other we would ask, "Whatcha doing?", "Nothing.", "Wanna hang out?", "I'll be there by 7." "Are you holding?"

Bobby's mom and dad were honest to goodness circus performers. They juggled, but their job kept them on the road. Bobby and his older sister were home alone most of the time and grandmother was there a lot but she didn't stay at his house. Well you can imagine what that sort of freedom felt like. Still we were very responsible at Bobby's place. His house was a museum because he lived with one of the largest privately owned collections of circus and carnival memorabilia in the US. Looking back on it now I wish I had taken photos.

Here's a tangent.

In high school my success with the ladies was marginal to non-existent. In homeroom the girl who sat in front of me my junior and senior year was so 'popular' it was like I 'burned up on re-entry' every time I walked past her desk. In our senior year she conceded that I was 'interesting'. I can assure you that it wasn't by choice that I lost my virginity after high school. The Lord knows I tried. Instead I had a ton of really excellent 'girl' friends. Their names start with the letters J, B, J, J.J., and J (whom I still see from time to time, if we're lucky maybe she'll let me take a picture). Ahhhh J. We had good times.

Hey, I want to apologize for not hitting my comments. Tomorrow night will be a 'commentcentric' night.

Tomorrow promises to be historic regardless of who wins the Presidential Election.

For the first time in US history we may have a woman Vice President if the outcome favors John McCain and Sarah Palin. On the other hand, if the outcome favors Barack Obama and Joe Biden we will have our first sitting black President.

Whomever is elected you can be sure that the fundamental societal changes that are in our future will be epic, that is if we are to believe the campaign ads we have been seeing over the last year or so.

So as your humble servant I am offering this short guide to help you, the American public, wade through the the troubling times we are sure to see over the next 4 years.

If John McCain and Sarah Palin is elected:

- the first thing you will want to do is have as much promiscuous sex as you can because on January 20th that will all stop in favor of abstinence only sex education. Birth control and condoms will become illegal. Don't bother teaching your kids about sex in the home. What they learn about sex will come from public schools and faith based ministries.

- Start to convert your now casual attire to military BDU's. There will be no hope for an early withdrawal from Iraq. In fact the war will escalate to the point where volunteer service will become a thing of the past, say hello to the military draft card. No matter if your 18 or 48 as long as you can hold a rifle in 2 hands you should be expected to be called in to the service for your God and country.

- expect to have a very conservative Supreme court. John Paul Stevens and Ruthie Ginsburg aren't getting any younger. Sooner or later there will come a time when someone will have to fill those 2 posts. Stevens at 88 + 4 = 92 years old. That borders on ancient. Look, having a conservative Court implies that the defense in any case will have to work twice as hard to win. Appeals from the Circuit courts will be seen as done deals and every one should know that the Supreme Court is the highest court that has the power to outwardly reject an appeal that isn't deemed 'worthy' of consideration.

- you should stop spending money on fuel in this winter heating season. Instead start burning some of your books. If your like me you have more than enough readily available fuel for your fires when the cold chill creeps in. Those tomes of questionable moral virtue. Thankfully I have all my Harry Potter in hardback. That alone should keep the family warm for 2 days.

- be thankful that one of the issues that both sides agree on is the 'craptastic' idea of "No Child Left Behind". I want my kids to have a good education (that's why I don't live in Minnesota or South Carolina). For the most part it is a program that most teachers hate and in my estimation it is just throwing money at the problem without really doing anything. Let's move on to something else.

If Barack Obama and Joe Biden is elected:

- run don't walk to your nearest Arab outfitter or clothing shop. People are saying that once Obama is elected he will throw open the doors to the Muslims. Guys get your self a keffiyeh. It is like the Arab man's hat. Only you wear it all the time. Really, all of the time. You won't have to take it off at the ballgame when the 'Star Spangled Banner' is sung and you don't have to take it off in the presence of the ladies. Speaking of which, girls, you may what to purchase a modest head scarf. Just something to cover the hair. If you want to be acceptable for marriage you may want to invest in something that covers the lower half of you face. Here's a great conversation starter, "When the Roman Catholic Church dropped the ball in the Dark Ages wasn't it great that the Arabs and the Jews carried the worlds knowledge through those troubling times. Without them we would have had to start all over again."

- just open your wallet. Someone from the Ministry of Taxes and Wasteful Spending will be by to take what they want from you and when the government starts taxing the corporations look out, there is going to be a serious crisis on our hands. Never mind the speculation and default swaps, federal taxes will bankrupt everybody in America. Thank God I have both guns and religion. There will be a revolution afoot just you watch.

- make sure you buy 2 pairs of jackboots. In WW2 the jackboot represented fascism in it's heyday and in the days of the Cold War they represented Communism. With the new Socialist Society we will be entering, I think this is a prudent move. Marxism and Communism are but one step away. I don't know about you but given my childhood farm history I think a position of authority is in my future. Sorry city folk, from now on you will have to answer to me as to when the best time to harvest onions is. Suddenly I have a feeling of empowerment.

- you should make peace with your God. The rapture is near. I am talking about the 'End of Days'. He is 'Legion' and he brings pestilence and misery. Obama is the Anti-Christ. If you don't do it now you can expect a long ass line on Jan. 21 the day after he is sworn in. My advice is to get there early and avoid the rush.

- do all of your routine health visits now. Get caught up on your shots, get those screens, and do a colonoscopy. Once Obama is in health care will take a dive. I don't want to be given a shot from a newly released mental patient, do you? I don't know how he is going to do it but the day after Jan. 20 the doctor I've trusted for 11 years is going to be struck dumb and he won't be able to remember the 'Hippocratic' oath. Everyone should be concerned about sub standard health care.

That's it. Good luck to both candidates. We'll see the direction United States wants to take tomorrow. At that point we will have to live with it for 4 years. If things don't work out there is always 2012.

Vote.

Damn You Scotty! I Can't Get This Outta Of My Head ....

Our buddy scotfree has laid down a monster pile of BOC (Blue Oyster Cult).

If your into it, if you might be into it, or if your not into it but think you might be able to be into it you can check out his post here.

http://mog.com/scotfree/blog/225759

So this post got me thinking about;

- I got to see BOC for free at a beach concert in Virginia Beach. We happen to be perched at a bar just across the street from the stage. We had the best of all worlds. We had seats with a view and refreshments and we had some kick ass music that was loud but not so loud you could talk, if you know what I mean. To this day I regret being so inebriated.

Drunk out of my mind with my shipmates I hardly remember more than what I just told you.

- Next year I am going to be 40. Whooopeee! Plan your slams now. When June 5th comes I officially enter 'old age'. The knees are bad, eye sight failing, My back hurts more than it doesn't. I can feel life slipping away.

Of course I am not as old as some other Moggers. While there is a lot of good natured ribbing (mostly one sided and in my favor) I won't mention more than one name. scotfree. May your years never get in the way of your coolness.

- Heavy Metal. What a cool freakin movie that just plain rocks. BOC did 'Veteran of the Psychic War'. Second tune into the film.

I had to be 16 or 17 when I first saw this movie on the big screen. No doubt it was at Lehigh Valley Movie Plaza 'Midnight Movies' on Friday or Saturday night. I was probably driving my 74 Camaro. It was a 305 automatic, my dad had the 350 4 speed manual. Gas was cheap then. What did we care?

2 of the 5 screens had 'The Wall' and 'Rocky Horror' the others had rotating goodness every week. 'Rock and Rule', old sci-fi, 'Marijuana Madness', and just a boatload of movies that some how crept back into popular culture like a monster from the deep.

- My relationship with MOG. I used to come here to unwind. Sometimes you get alot out of me, sometimes you don't. Sometimes funny, sometimes thoughtful, always sarcastic, and sometimes but mostly honest. The details of my life I don't want to talk about I don't. I share what I want to share. Lucky for you one of my faults is 'Too Much Information'. Lucky for me because I have a groovy group to tell it to.

- Roller Skating. Before I could drive one of the things I did was go roller skating at the old Route 100 Roller Skating Rink. It was massive. Long feathered hair and Rush's 'Moving Pictures' looped on my Walkman. At the time it was the soundtrack for my life. 'Red Barchetta' had a hand in my later love of sporty foreign cars.

If you click the link below you will find the story that supposedly inspired the song. Good read if you got a printer and some time to spend in the bathroom. You should notice the mention of FIAT in the link. FIAT is 'THE' Italian car manufacturer, period. I can't get enough of them.

http://www.fiatbarchetta.com/links/nice.html

Check out this fan vid for the car. Like the Jaguar E-Types it is sex on wheels.

- Life in general. Enjoy it while you have it.

- This tune from 'Heavy Metal'.

What ever happened to Don Felder?

From Our Heads To Yours or Go Easy Into Midnight ....

Friday came and I was excited. After the last time we got together we hadn't said much about what we did. When we did talk it was more about me gushing about how I thought there was some magic in what happened. Sadly, the last time, we didn't record a lick of what went on. Today that is dust and forever blowing in the wind.

Not so on Friday. With the addition of new (new to us that is) equipment we were able to play through the amp/mixer and at the same time and record everything for posterity. For two guys in Pennsylvania and for at least one of those fellas it clicked and now I know I have some work cut out for me.

The equipment. Peavy 6 Channel Mixer Amp, 2 moniters, a Roland U-20 keyboard, 1 Les Paul knock off (Jay Turser in Sunburst Red), a Korg AX-1500G, a stout but ancient Nakamichi tape deck, and a case of Yuengling Lager.

3 hours later this is some of what we came up with.

Now the quid pro quo.

I don't play the guitar very well. Galen is light years ahead of me. We have a buddy that I think is better than both of us sometimes and I hope we can recruit him.

This track is full of effects. While I believe no amount of effects can cover for awful playing, I think, if your smart about it, those effects go a long way to help get the sound you want. That's what is driving me.

This is raw jamming. We had no idea where it was going. Play and find something that works for you or D.I.Y bliss.

I feel like I am cheating Galen. This is the recording I have the access to and he doesn't. Sorry buddy. I swear the next one is yours.

I can count on one hand the people who have heard me touch pick to string. This is a big step.

For Gods sake please be honest in comments. I know I don't really have to say that. You guys know me and I have broad shoulders. If there's something you felt put off by let us know.

Galen and I were thinking of something along the lines of a music collective on MOG. More about this after I figure out logistics. Stay tuned.

If you didn't know Galen is psuedomacabre and he easily my favorite person to make music with. Honestly, he's the only person I have ever made music with.

The Halloween party post will have to wait. I don't think I have another one in me tonight.

Hey Enjoy Cameltoe.

Open Letter To The League Of American Patriots …

I’m not sure where to start so let’s just say when I picked up this flyer that was littering the streets of my fair city I knew I had to respond in someway.

Every last one of you is a damn fool. Your fools for starting such a group and your members are fools for believing your hate filled, race bashing, anti Semitic message. Seriously, get your head out of the 18th century. Wake up bigots, your plantation has been sold and subdivided allowing a synagogue to be built on top of your ‘favorite lynching tree’. Times change.

To believe that somehow a person has diminished faculties because of the color of their skin or because they worship differently than you, is beyond comprehension to me. I cannot wrap my mind around that one.

What is it that makes you so angry? Were you all thrown down the stairs when you were children? It had to be head trauma, because I don’t think reasonable people could come to the conclusions you have by using their intellect and good sense.

The flyer I had found is a great example of the hypocrisy and double standard you are using to divide folks along racial lines.

The 1st line says, "Do you really want a Black President?

Underneath is your CIA Factbook quote.

"Black ruled nations are the most violent and unstable nations in the world. Crime, violence, corruption, and disease run rampant in black run countries. (Source: US Dept. of State and CIA World Factbook)"

You guys just blew the money shot with that one didn’t you? You want everyone to know you are all about hate and not at all about the issues. I ran a check on your quote; it was a big surprise to me that it exists no where except on the paper I found on the ground.

I guess the big question is, So what if the President is black? What does that matter? What will a black president do that a white one won’t and vice versa. You probably don’t have an answer for that one. The question is more or less rhetorical.

The 2nd line says, "Do you really want a Marxist President?"

Underneath is your AP, Times quote.

"Barack Hussein Obama is endorsed by the Communist Party, ‘Hanoi’ Jane Fonda and Daniel Ortega."

I honestly don’t think you have any idea what a Marxists is beyond being a communist. Have you ever read about historical materialism? Do you know what dialectic means? Who knows you may just surprise the hell out of me. You say Obama is endorsed by the Communist Party, well this isn’t entirely true. The Communist Party is against the Republican Party so by default they support Obama. I‘m sure Barack Obama didn’t actively seek the endorsement of the Communist Party. I mean who would? That would be the death knell for any presidential campaign. But if you want to play word/logic games we could say this;

"Do you really want a Racist, Anti Semitic, Homophobe, Bigot President?"

He is endorsed by the League of American Patriots.

See how that works. Blanket statements that are not based in real fact come off as half assed and disingenuous.

The 3rd line says, "Do you really want an anti-White President?"

Underneath is your AP, Fox quote.

"It is ALL about race. Barack Hussein Obama is endorsed by Louis Farrakhan, and the New Black Panther Party."

I’ll repeat the same observations from the first 2 lines. I won’t belabor the point.

Since finding this paper I have visited your website to try to understand where you are coming from. While there I saw your requirement for membership into your group. In fact it is the only requirement. I quote your website here;

"Membership is restricted to adult heterosexual men and women who are entirely of European Christian ancestry."

If that doesn’t say it all.

Look, our country was founded by people fleeing from religious persecution. We are a country of immigrants. Sure we had slavery, but we fought a brutal and bloody Civil War because of it. America has paid its price and thanks to you we still are. It is folks like you who harbor ill will and you won’t let us get past it. Personally I want to forget, forget and move on to something better to spend my energy on. This kind of appeal that you distribute is just a waste of time.

While I will agree you are within your rights to publish this .. this crap, I will not stand by and let you get away with it unchallenged .

Tonight I will say a prayer to my Jewish messiah asking him to shine the light of benevolence and reason on you in the hope that somehow or someway I am able to ease the hate you have inside.

Sincerely,

Two Hours Later ....

No kidding I just got off the phone with a very old dear friend of mine. My guess is we haven't talked to each other for about .. well close to 4 years. Last time I saw him he was smoking a cigarette on my porch when I came home from work one day. Talk about shock. In that situation you get put on the spot to recount your life thus far since last time you met.

"How you doing?" was the question you can't prepare for. What do you say?

It was awkward but not 'not' enjoyable.

Anyway he tracked me down. He found me here and decided to mess with my head.

He's a dick but I still 'love' him. I do mean love in case your wondering.
This cat hung with me through thick and thin. He was/is a true friend.

My point is we made another connection with each other. He found me and engaged my world, I accepted him back and thought nothing of the time between us. It really was as if the conversation didn't end. We just picked up from where we remember and laughed our asses off in the mean time.

When we were younger I looked up to Eli because he had more real 'book' learning than I did at the time. He and I clicked I think more because he got to expound on thoughts and I was always willing to ask him 'Why?' Not saying that I didn't have the knowledge to keep up with him, it's just that I felt when we talked it pushed us farther than we were before the talk ever started.

"I'm a wave."

"I'm a particle."

If only you could have seen him bouncing up and down like a donkey in heat while shouting this.

Get you rear over to his page and say "Hey." You should do it if your looking for serious blackmail material about me. He's got the deep dirt.

You can find Eli here.

Don't bother yourself with the dot. Read and play it old school.

He did say the words I couldn't say today or tomorrow. No not ever.

Jack put them in a box. Red ribbon like a fire engine red. Fireworks, for Independence with her bombs in the air.

Listen. Listen and drink.

Well, Doctor, What Have We Got, A Republic Or A Monarchy?

"A Republic, if you can keep it."

You know they just don't say things like this anymore, politicians that is.

This quote is attributed to Ben Franklin. 1787 was the year and the Constitutional Convention just finished signing the Constitution of the United States.

Dr. James McHenry from Maryland was the one to overhear the conversation that spawned these words.

Personally I can't wait for the day when America moves from voting for self serving reasons to voting for the common good.

On that day we will have a Republic again.

October ......

Macadam, macadam, cement, macadam, macadam, grass, macadam, cement, macadam ...

A dog barks. I can tell he's not a big dog. He had a higher pitch that a barrel chest won't allow. I don't think he was a hound, just didn't have that hound sound.

Cool nights. 34 some and 40 others. On cool clear nights with a little humidity and some wind I become bulletproof. Something entirely different from what I should be.

Walking home with a six of Porter I became hyper aware. Voices speaking a language I couldn't understand. Scenarios played out in minutes that seemed a lot longer than usual. Would I get my hands on a bottle and in a loud voice say, "I will beat you with this bottle until it breaks, then I will stab you with it!" "I think it's better if you leave me alone tonight."

Did the voices mean malice? I don't know. I would still like to 'be ready' rather than 'be sorry'.

Sonic Youth folks. Somehow and someway this band does it for me.

Lyrics:

There's something shifting in the distance
Don't know what it is
Day's as dead as nights [?]
Except for the feeling that's
Crawling up inside of me as you
Sing your song as you
Swing along and you're
It's your, your song

It's the devil in me
Makes me stare at you as you
Twist up along you
Sing your song and you
Slipping up to me and you're
So close i just a
Wanna touch you and i
Sing your song and you
Dont know what's going on but you
Wanna me to come along as you
Sing your song and you're
Fucking with me as you
Slither up to me
Your lips there
Slipping twisting at my
Insides and singing on
You're just a
Swinging man, it's not your
Swinging song and now i
Don't know what you want but
You're looking at me and you're
Falling to the ground and you're
Twisting around fucking with my
My mind and i don't know what
's going on

Swinging in your song
Twisting me on as you
Slither up to me and it's gotta be
And i don't know what you wanna do
And you're looking at me with your big dark eyes
And you're rubbing your body

Twisting

The Second Presidential Debate: Tonto Versus Frankenstein ....

I dug this exchange. Seriously, they pulled the gloves off and beat the snot outta each other.

Barack did let McCain take pot shots and McCain kept them coming.

Barack kicked McCain's ass.

For what it's worth John McCain is great in this venue. I could listen to him all day. His ducks were in a row and he became an 'O' seeking missile. Unfortunately Obama brought the past administration's record as a shield. Don't forget we have had only one Democratic prez. in 28 years. 8 years out of 28 to be exact.

John got me at the end with the chief petty officer question. I have to say his answer was right on when he said everything he learned about leadership came from a chief. What can I say I stand by the Navy man.

But Barack had something John McCain didn't have and that was a trusting spirit.

Personally, I'm fed up with Shrub. I am looking for something new.

The question is who can make that happen for us.

Your thoughts.

Forgot the music. My bad.

History's Ghost .....

"In memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice so others could reach for the stars; Ad astra per aspera (a rough road leads to the stars) ..."

"Two men set off to build a dream; for one it ended with a scheme."

"I was taught that the way of progress is neither swift nor easy."

"How nice--to feel nothing, and still get full credit for being alive."

"Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted."

"A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there's no question about it."

"It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience."

"Don't worry - if there's a hell below, we're all gonna go."

(Track courtsy of jenny and her post here)

"If the world was perfect, it wouldn't be."

"It is these things that lead to evil, to violence, to cruelty, anger, pride and jealousy. Let me not ruin myself with these things."

"The king who rules among the kings of the cities am I."

"After people have repeated a phrase a great number of times, they begin to realize it has meaning and may even be true."

"History is mostly guessing; the rest is prejudice."

We are looking for a drummer to lay down live tracks. Location isn't an issue.

Apply in Mogmail to I am or psuedomacabre.

The Vice Presidential Debate, Your Thoughts ....

Wow, Biden stayed civil and Palin charmed. I was taken back by Biden choking up when he talked about his first wife and sons. Palin got me when she shouted out to the 3rd graders in her brothers class. My god these people seemed almost human.

Palin tapped into her strength for being down to earth and Biden ruled on the investment he has in foreign policy.

I don't see a clear winner. Sure Palin flubbed and repeat herself, and Biden got a bit hot but both did well tonight.

Overall my feelings about these things is debates are more about entertainment than cutting to the real substance of issues. Both parties have their talking points and they don't stray too far from the party platform and voting for one or another is like cashing the check before the funds are in the bank.

What did you think think about this bit of 'must see TV'?

Dream (Option C) ...

As the smoke was rising it got beat by the unstable wobble of the ceiling fan. "Off balance blades." I thought. One of these days that is coming down on my head. My heart kept time with the spinning. I tasted the metal in my own blood and had a dull muffed noise in the back of my head. Staggering to get up I couldn't help but notice there were parts of me missing.

"Oh man, this is what happens when you get hit by a truck?" The impact isn't so bad but the roll under is what causes the damage. Bouncing and crushing, pulling my hands in and covering my face the momentum didn't stop.

I tried to focus my eyes. I opened one and it seemed fine. No depth and the objects were farther than they appeared to be. I opened the other and there was gray. Well half gray and half black. Nothing more.

That's when it became a challenge to remain vertical. Earth's molten iron core wanted me to come home and my body left without giving my brain time to argue. Down I went and you would think the cuts I got on the side of my head would hurt. Surprisingly I didn't mind. I didn't mind the glass poking through my cheek, nor did I mind the unnatural angle my arm was bent into.

I could use a smoke right now.

Rolling onto my back I looked up. The water stains surrounding the crack in the ceiling came alive. Little spots became rubbery creatures pushing through the crack like they were running from some imaginary fire on the other side. 2 beget 4, 4 beget 8, 8 beget 16 and on and on and on until the room was filled. They took up all of the space, so much so it was hard to breath. Then just as fast as they had come in they were pulled back again, through the rift, and as they went so did I, until I was no more.

About a year ago this email came across my desktop. I keep it in my Inbox because sometimes I need to laugh out loud.

This email has made it's rounds through the Internet at least 30 times since last year but for those who haven't seen it here it is. I think I will start with my favorite.

Olan Mills Awesomeness (all captions under photos):

Patrick broke ranks and chose drag over the bow tie.

This photo isn't discolored. The 70s really were that 'Orange'.

Just a typical afternoon down on the plantation. In a business suit.

Grapefruit smuggling isn't a crime, but posing it in profile should be.

Oh, this is super. What better way to capture the charm and innocence of a child than to plunk him down amid the coarse trappings of a life lived in pursuit of wealth -- oversized bills, an adding machine and the Wall Street Journal -- and make him sit inside a briefcase? (They probably just fold up the little demon right in there to carry him home.) The finishing touch is the globe, which completes the portrait of the young Antichrist in Chess King vest and Red Goose loafers, plotting his takeover of the world (insert maniacal laugh). That is, as soon as someone changes his poopy diaper.

You'd think Pearle Vision would throw in another two pairs for free.

It's so cute when couples have matching hairdos.

Dawn and her recently exhumed sister, Gorgotha, pose with Scraps.

Once they had two or three, how did they ever find enough time alone to make more?

Olan Mills Backdrop #11: The Library, one of their most popular themes, as seen in this photo of the young Unabomber and his wife.

Rejected Toby Keith album cover.

Hiroshima, 1945. The last known photo of Kelli and Senor Loco .

B-52's, the early years.

The Damned ...

Nothing says 1973 quite like denim and helmet hair.

Olan Mills backdrop #4: Bucolic Meadow with Split Rail Fence. Is that an animal carcass behind her?

Talk about a third wheel...

Those glasses came free with a purchase of Brut cologne.

A pose like this will get you kicked right out of the Convention.

At the Southern Baptist Convention?

Thoughtful Lance. Mirthful Lance. Two sides of a delightful coin.

Drake won Bitchin'est Senior Mullet by a landslide.

The Purvis family made several stops along the Oregon Trail to document their six-month journey. This photo was taken just two weeks before the dysentery took Momma to Jesus.

Bobbi isn't the first waitress to fall for her manager, but she and Dale both got fired from Shoney's.

Kenneth and his prom date.

And don't miss the First Presbyterian Players as they perform "Godspell" next Wednesday night in the Fellowship Hall. Childcare will be provided. Please bring a covered dish.

There is more but I can't load them.

Who ever put this email together has made my day over and over. Thank you anonymous e mailer.

Let's See How The Republicans Will Spin This One ....

Voting down of the '700 Billion Bailout Bill'.

Here is the official tallies:

In Favor:

Dems - 140

Repubs - 65

Against:

Dems - 95

Repubs - 133

Since when did the Republican Party become so fiscally responsible?

Here's how Fox (that bastian of free speech) reported the bills failure to pass.

Republicans were quick to blame House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the bill's failure, saying a pre-vote speech in which she criticized the Bush administration's handling of the economy had turned Republican votes against the bailout.

Enjoy the 'Failures'.

Lyrics:

Don't speak of safe Messiahs,
A failure of the Modern Man,
To the centre of all life's desires,
As a whole not an also ran.
Love in a hollow field,
Break the image of your father's son,
Drawn to an inner feel,
He was thought of as the only one,

He no longer denies,
All the failures of the Modern Man.
He can't pick sides,
Sees the failures of the Modern Man.
Wise words and sympathy,
Tell the story of our history.
New strength gives a real touch,
Sense and reason make it all too much.
With a strange fatality,
Broke the spirits of a lesser man,
Some other race can see,
In his way he was the only one,
In his way he was the only one.

He no longer denies,
All the failures of the Modern Man.
No, no, no, he can't pick sides,
Sees the failures of the Modern Man.
Now that it's time to decide,
In his time he was a total man,
Taken from Caesar's side,
Kept in silence just to prove who's wrong.
He no longer denies,
All the failures of the Modern Man.
No, no, no, he can't pick sides,
Sees the failures of the Modern Man,
All the failures of the Modern Man.

Feelin Alright On A Thursday Night ....

Finger popping, toe tappin' good feeling.

Hit play, or else. You won't regret it.

There's a few reasons propelling this ride and every one of then is connected in it's own wonderfully chaotic way. "Life, the Universe and Everything".

My good friend Galen has joined MOG and honestly I swore to myself I wouldn't do a shout out but I think we have a good chance of roping him in.

I could write volumes about Galen but I won't. The reason is because I think he is able to show what kind of person he is well enough on his own, that and I think you will benefit by making his acquaintance.

Drop by his page and say HI! here:

http://mog.com/psuedomacabre

Cub Scouts started tonight. I am leading the Webelos den this year. On tap for the kids is a really awesome nature scavenger hunt, knife safety, a trip to Just Born candy company, a bike rodeo, and just a ton of other things to do. I lost 2 boys this year but I got 2 more so it evens out at about 7 boys. My assistant Glen is back and I am looking forward to the good time we will have.

I don't think I mentioned it to often but I am a Scout for life. Some of my fondest memories from my youth has centered around family and Scouts. I enjoyed real personal achievement in Scouts. Growing up without a father my Uncle Bob and my grandfather were my father figures. Uncle Bob really got into Scouts with me and if I can muster half of the enthusiasm for Scouting that he did I think I will do alright. I have a single mom in my den so I have some challenges and big responsibilities to stand up to. I think this will be good for me.

I finally tuned all of my guitars to open D. Thanks Annie. Thanks for giving me the kick. I played a rousing rendition of "I Love ...". It's a song we sing when we feel like being silly. Alex sang "I Love Pokemon", Baylor sang "I Love Snakes", Linny sang, "I Love Cast In Bronze" (don't ask). I sang, "I Love Gyros" and for the first time in a long time I played my no name nylon string. Brand X guitar but what a sound. Wide fretboard and heavy as hell. It's got a dull tone but you can hammer it as hard as you want and it sounds great for about 10 feet.

I bought a piece of music equipment that I think may get the guys together again. By 'guys' I mean Galen, Tommy, John, and myself. It's the kind of prospect that I look forward to. Who knows what may happen. Hopefully more on this later.

October is right around the corner. Baylor's birthday, my anniversary and Halloween. My favorite time of year.

If your scratching your head wondering about the connections .... let it pass. The connections are personal and they wouldn't make sense to you anyway.

Here's to moving forward.

Enjoy the tune. It isn't Coldplay.
I know the original by the Gorillaz and it's HHT and all but this cover blows away the original in every way. Did I mention my buddy the 'Monkey Pumper" (aka Galen) turned me on to the Editors?

So over all I feel good, I am buoyant.

The Calculated Risk ...

700 billion. Defense is the only thing this country will spend more money on in 2008 and that's by a measly 28 billion.

Today's news from Washington should be an eye opening experience for many of us.

This is what Bernanke said today:

In the case of Lehman Brothers, a major investment bank, the Federal Reserve and the Treasury declined to commit public funds to support the institution. The failure of Lehman posed risks. But the troubles at Lehman had been well known for some time, and investors clearly recognized--as evidenced, for example, by the high cost of insuring Lehman's debt in the market for credit default swaps--that the failure of the firm was a significant possibility. Thus, we judged that investors and counter parties had had time to take precautionary measures.

It's easy to find the stock quote for Lehman Bros. If you look 10 years back LEH had some troubled times prior to hitting a high last year.

What bothers me is the call for immunity from court investigations or judicial review.

My question is why.

Giving the Treasury such power is unheard of. At the same time it is stealing some of the power away from the Federal Reserve.

Right now Paulson is in danger of become the most powerful man on the planet. Is he up to the job?

My guess is the Treasury wants to cut out the time spent in litigation. That and other things. I predict we will see more very large corporations and more monopoly suits in our future. 'Free Market' is going to get worse before it gets better.

Come to think of it, with bills like the one Paulson/Bernanke are proposing our country is becoming more Socialist. The effect is far worse than any 'Universal Health Care' bill.

Please wake up. As citizens of the United States we don't even have limited control over our government. Paulson/Bernanke are appointees. We didn't vote for them. Most likely they got the jobs on a word and a hand shake.

Regardless, this is on their watch. LEH was trading at $18.13 in Feb. of 2000. LEH's high was $82.24 January of last year. Today its at $0. In fact it isn't trading at all. I know somebody got out in the nick of time.

I mad as hell that our lawmakers would even think this is okay.

Thank god for an issue Pubs and Crats could agree on. I just hope those on both sides of the aisle stick to their guns.

Call your Congressman or Senator and tell them you don't like this idea. Please exercise the power you have left.

If your interested this is what I came across:

I got the title of the post from that one.
