WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Are We Coasting? or Feelin' Lazy ......

Posted about 1 year ago

Hit play, on the top or or on the bottom.

Introspection is an invaluable tool that one should use now and then. I think a definition for one of my favorite words sums this idea up nicely.

Catharsis - The term in drama refers to a sudden emotional climax that evokes overwhelming feelings of great sorrow, pity, laughter or any other extreme change in emotion, resulting in restoration, renewal and revitalization in members of the audience.

Oh man, I just love the way catharsis rolls off the tongue. Ca thar sisss.

MOG is catharsis, and even though I said it a million times before, I will say it again.

MOG is catharsis.

Mike the Knife's post asked us succinctly, "Why Do We MOG"? How did we respond?

Overwhelmingly in favor of restoration, renewal, and revitalization.

Right there ... that's the real reason I stay.

So get out there and remember to remember. 'The Real Ammbassadors' record has quite a history. Maybe I'll slide you another track and elaborate later, but don't hold your breath.

If your feeling froggy, why don't you record your voice saying 'Catharsis' and use it in a sentence then add the track in comments. Points taken away for using my screen name or quoting this post (nobody likes a suck up) other then that, have at it.

And if you didn't already, check out this steller Armstrong tune. This man never ceases to floor me.

Catharsis - You barely have to move your mandible to say it.

Not like in days gone by, but a lot of the Mog & Multiply folks made me feel very fortunate!

Well I'll tell ya. There's nothing like writing a post about MOG to get people interested. It helps people catharsize themselves...I think. Writing real music posts is a tough nut these days. It is my theory that the removal of the like button has sped the process by which posts turn over, that is, run out of steam, unless they have constant attention and you hit a run of cross talk. Either that or I'm hallucinating, which could be happening cause of all the catharsisizing, I've been doing. The like button was like a filter that you could use to jump in the busiest discussions and it was a way people could acknowledge posts without commenting as well.

Sorry about that, I was just trolling old haunts and found a gem.

Dave, I am happy and sad for you. Don't let it get you down.

Cody, you truly are the pulse of MOG. You know it happens before it happens.

I find that there's a lot of good new people coming through, but they all tend to want to write about things that we've done to death already. If I read another post about someone reminiscing on New Order or Joy Division I'm going to throw someone a beating. That's why I like our group on multiply more and more because it's like an ever progressive conversation.

I'm sorta lazy, I'd say. ut I find it really difficult to put something big together in a post, when it is likely to go over just as well as an introspective 2 line MOGlove post. Not that I'm driven just by the ego boost of massive commentary or anything...

I mean, of course I like to get comments from my near circle and I do,but where's the new Andrea or the new Soulrocket?

I also think the "same size" mogosphere is generic looking, there are too many one line posts, blah, blah, blah. I don't want to coast, but there's a lot less reward for going out on a limb lately.

I still try to go fishing and there are definitely a few people worth casting out for on a daily basis but ...(holy shit! DenRa has the top 4 posts for the month!, come on now what the hell is that?)

That reminds me of the Python sketch where the couple discuss words that sound "woody" (good) or "tinney" (bad)....

Now get to work on a post about "deus ex machina"...

(remember - I graduated with a degree in theater, and I'm not afraid to use it)

Most of the new stuff I'm finding are bands that are posting their stuff here. Some really good, like:

    http://mog.com/ameliaband

    http://mog.com/Blastronautstheband

but, not much on the discussion side. A lot of times, if I do find a new mogger with interesting commentary, it'll be one or two posts and they are gone.
Cody, I too miss the "like" button functionality. Used it all the time to find the hot action posts.
Before I really grasped the concept of "catharsis", I tried cauterization and catheterization...I need to pay more attention - things are a mess right now...

...and will someone please explain to me why my first scentence had small font and the rest of the comment was larger, but on post they switched?? I wish there was a font size button up there...I know, I know, I can do the HTML - but I'm lazy...

Why thank you, we (=Greeks) take pride in that ;)

The best part of catharsis is that afterwards, you can get dirty all over again, and experience catharsis again. It's a cathartic circle :)

Remember to remember, true, but also remember to forget.
