WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Happy Birthday Laurie Anderson ....

Posted about 1 year ago
While I don't really know Laurie Anderson personally, I feel I have a tenuous connection with her. We both love Lou Reed and share a birthday.June 5, 1969 is the day I started dying.Gotta say, so far it's been a good run but I have some complaints. My knees, they haven't worked right since the Navy. My eyesight, it's getting to near legendary badness and being born colorblind (thanks Pappy) doesn't help any. My weight, while I still get on a bike and chase my kids around I find I can never quite get rid of those last 15 pounds. My patience, it's wearing thinner as time goes on. The stack of books I have been meaning to read gets bigger not smaller. My wife, she gets better looking and I don't, which makes me ask why she still hangs with a lout like me. I am still smarter than my kids, but this won't last. I get tired but I can't sleep. What's up with that?I like to think I am still sort of 'hip', but I get strange looks from the younger folks. I don't know why, my music collection is way better then theirs. Enjoy Laurie, and if you see her on the street wish her Happy Birthday for me.

  3. Lady Miss Ian says Happy B-day Mr. Am! Hey, no matter what happens, it's always a blessing to spend one more day on the planet. And, you are so lucky to share your birthday with Ms. Anderson. She is one of two women musicians that I worry about my husband up and leaving me for. Luckily, it's pretty unlikely they're gonna hook up. ;-)

  13. Bartleby says "being born colorblind (thanks Pappy) doesn't help any" -- since hereditary colour blindness is linked to the X chromosome, you should be thanking your Mummy ;) Anyway, I shall reiterate what Cody said: Your advanced hasn't impaired the quality of your Mogging either. Happy berth day ;)

  14. contrabandwidth says Colorblind, wow, never knew that. I had a friend who's dad was in the army (and was colorblind) and they used him to spot the camouflaged tanks. I never quite understood this, but it told me he could pick them out better. Any thoughts on that one? Happy Birthday! The pile of books disappeared for me when I started going to the library. When I check out too much, they simply go away for another time. I also started reading Nick Hornby's book reviews ("The Stuff I've Been Reading") in The Believer, which always starts out with a list of books acquired, and books read. If a published author falls to the same good intentions as the rest of us, it encouraged me to not let it weigh me down.

  16. annieander says At first I though this was a post about Louie Anderson, and I thought...Is that guy still alive? He was awfully overweight, and now John Hurley has taken over his Family Feud gig. So maybe he is dead...but then I Googled him, and lucky enough, he is alive and touring...PHEW! What a relief. He is alive...just like you. Don't quite know where I am going with this... Happy birthday friend.
