Time And Relative Dimensions In Space ......

Artist:
I cut my teeth on Baker. Davison not so much.
Hartnell the first and Troughton more playful and less serious.
Pertwee stoic. A Sherlock without a Waston.
I think McGann deserved a second chance.
Tennant is a fool for giving up the whole brilliant enterprise.
C. Baker, McCoy, and Smith are a mystery to me.
Eccleston while decent seemed to brash. Militant to the point of being flippant.
Who? I mean the Doctor of course.
Set a course for 'psychedelic stun'.

Chris, you know I'm a huge fan of the Doctor. Loved all of them, but if I had to pick, from the old series it's a tie between Tom Baker and McCoy. Davison was playful, but great. He's also responsible for some of my favorite moments from the series, including one of my all-time favorite eps. Colin Baker was funny and bizarre, but sadly did not gel well with the higher ups, so he was axed. Sylvester McCoy had great episodes, saw the series through to its first ending (and those last couple of episodes were rather strange, really). Hartnell and Troughton are the mysteries for me--I've seen some of 'em, but not enough to know too much, but I've read an awful lot. And Pertwee was great for action.
As for the new ones, Tenant is it. Nothing against Eccleston, he brought the show back and for that I'm grateful, but let's be frank: Tenant's 3 and a half seasons as the Doc are just about perfect in every way, shape, and form. Seriously, how could you improve on what he did, other than to make it last longer? I look forward to Smith, and I think with Moffat penning the show it has potential to be great, too. But I'll have to wait and see, ya know?
I have that KLF single on 12" if that makes me even more of a geek.
Been a while since I talked to you. Hope things are well. New school year off to a good start for the chilluns?
Ha Ha nothing and I mean nothing bring the geeks like Dr. Who.
Gentlemen I have a +3 claymore if your interested.
Nick and Chuck the Converse clad Dr, really floats my boat.
Nick my boy. That is a sweet ass groove.
Chuck that KLF thing, not at all surprising. <Linking those virtual pinkies.>
Ah Chuck I'm better than bad, I'm good. I mean it.
Glad to hear it.
(heh heh). Log.
Yeah Log!
Ahhhhhh. So
I had a jag of Doc Who love when I was in 8th grade..we were obsessed. I guess I was first gen. I need to go back though. I love brains in boxes..
Baker's Who was the first blush and staple on the little black and white all thru college, he will ever be the consummate incarnation for me. Much as I absolutely love what Tennant has done with the character, I nearly cried when Eccleston cut it short. Something about his poise just fit the times to a "T", and I wanted more of the black Doctor.
I don't know enough about the other Docs to comment, but I loved your one-liners!!
Awesome post, I am! The Davies reboot/resurrection with Eccleston and Tennant is one of my all-time favorite TV shows. Will miss Tennant, but thrilled that Hugo-winning scribe Moffat is taking over as show-runner - and am already smitten by pix of the adorable new companion. (Count me as a fan of "Torchwood" as well.) And this from someone who had no affection for the original zillion-year run. Needless to say, I have the KLF and Doctor Pablo & The Dub Syndicate tracks in my files, not to mention composer Murray Gold's various orchestral arrangements of the theme and his loveliest bit of scoring to date, "Rose's Theme." (Listening to the latter is a foolproof way to get my emotions churning.) BTW, fans of Sally Sparrow from the amazing ep "Blink" should be aware that Carey Mulligan, the actress who played the role, is on a roll. Her performance in the soon-to-be-released-stateside coming-of-age drama "An Education" is a revelation.
And just for the sake of comparison, the most recent iteration (minus visuals).
Oh yeah. How about a little love for the theme's composer Ron Grainer (also responsible for the crackling theme to "The Prisoner") and the ground-breaking electronic musician Delia Derbyshire who first brought it to life at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop? Murray Gold grabbed the ball and ran with it, and his scores are exquisite, but Grainer and Derbyshire were there first.
whoa, talk about yer time space continuum - I was just relaying the premise of "The Prisoner" to some co-workers (with blank stares) about an hour ago. meet you guys at the restaurant at the end of the galaxy later on....
I know I went on a bit there, but like scot suggested, it might have been out of my hands. Then again, I'm not a number. I'm a free man!
Mike, I also love "Torchwood" -- the current 5-ep mini-series was quite possibly one of the finest things ever produced for television, imo. I've done posts before on Ron Grainer and the Dr. Who theme, it really is a marvel considering what the tech was like in 1963.
Agreed on the "Torchwood" mini, Groon. If it's not renewed (and I can't see that happening since the ratings on BBC1 were tremendous), what a way to go out! If it is renewed, it bodes well for it getting better and better. And I myself did a "Doctorin' the TARDIS"/KLF post a while back. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm about to rewatch the entire second season of "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" with delectable Billie "Rose Tyler" Piper as the title character.
(purr/growl) mmm . . . Billie Piper . . .
Not sure I liked the "Torchwood" mini as much as season 2, but it was still great...the reveal of the aliens intentions was truly gut-wrenching and pathetic...and fraught with human frailties. Can't wait for more.
Orbital kills the "Who Theme" live!
and Billie? I'm with you guys on that!!
Wow a gaggle of geeks.
Sorry guys no time to comment proper like but I will get back ASAP.
Scotty, thanks for brighting my day. Woof, she a looker.
Dr. Who was big for me in the early '80s. I still hear "Exterminate" in my head often. I thought I was nearly done with him; I was on step 11. Damn you Iam for rekindling the passion.
scot: Billie! Yowza!
I am: Geeks? How dare you?
Dabeef: Are you in for a treat! I think that the new "Dr. Who" is like a sleek late-model Mercedes compared to the loveable jalopy of the original run.
The final stab in the heart eh? I look forward to the passionate pain.
