Let's see, a short list would include; The 2 Kim's, Deal and Gordon A Marne Greenholz from Live SkullOne Kristin, as in Hersh ya'llA Tara Key, who's no relation to the racehorse.Tanya Donelly, can't forget her. Brixy, the one time mate of MarkCindy Wilson and Kate Pierson Toss in a Kira and a Lunch brought to us by Sara Lee.And then there was these 3.

You can see where my mind was in the late 80's. Yes I will admit, I was mildly infatuated with a lot of female musicians who were doing their thing while I was doing mine, playing their tracks on the radio. Scrawl was always in heavy rotation for my ears. The band members were Carolyn O'Leary, Sue Harshe, and the hyper intelligent Marcy Mays (that's the order in the pic above). Born out of Columbus, Ohio, Scrawl did tours with the likes of the Afghan Whigs, Meat Puppets and My Bloody Valentine as well solo tours in support of their own records. One of the great things about Scrawl is they never went away completely. Mays and Harshe co own a bar in Columbus called the "Surly Girl Saloon":http://www.surlygirlsaloon.com/index.php apparently its a fairly punk rock kinda place, and Mays and Harshe still play under the name Scrawl minus O'Leary. The track your listening to was produced by Gary Smith, who also did work for the Pixies and the Muses. I am sure if you are familiar with those two bands, you picked up on the sound right away. Their fourth album "Bloodsucker" was recorded by Steve Albini. Which is great but for my money I like "He's Drunk" their 2nd and "Smallmouth."It's a vinyl rip with the extra song "I Need You" at the end. For some reason it sounds crunchy, don't know why. The needle and disk are clean. Maybe I gotta tweak my EQ. Hey Enjoy!
