  4. Cody B says On the catfight tip it was pretty good..I thought Mitt and Rudy might settle their immigration section with blows. Overall this debate would fall into the infotainment category..90 second answers with 30 second rebuttals at Anderson Coopers discretion. I can't take it seriously. How'd the guys do: Mighty Mike Huckabee- The funniest with off cuff remarks that didn't seem written, and comfortable in his own skin, even as he answered a question from the Log Cabin Republicans. One Issue Tom Tancredo- Terrible and why is he even here Duncan Hunter- No chance and his youtube vid (they all got to make their own) featured a Chuck Yeager endorsement and was more like a real commercial (snore). I don't know how a guy can run on strong military. Don't we already have "the best fighting force ever assembled." Ron Paul- I beam with pride when he talks about the war, but after that he seems crazy. Maybe like a fox, maybe like Ross Perot. He pretty much pledged to not run indie.. Mitt- Looked like a greezer from Happy Days with a nice suit. Having a hard time staying on top of his lies and flip-flops. Trying to shoehorn slogans into answers. His youtube vid was an attack ad on Rudy, which got the proceedings off and running. Rudy- Acted like he was ahead...It will not last. Forget boats...He is gonna get Swift-Ocean Linered the closer he gets to the prize. McCain-Half sober, intelligent, old school, Half seething about to snap postal worker. Nothing of substance was discussed..strictly broad strokes, jokes, and cut downs. Huckabee wins! But the big news will be the "Hillary planted" gays in the military question...

  5. I am says Cody, that is quite a wrap up. Maybe you should go pro and do color commentary for CSPAN or COURT tv. Huckabee scares me in a molesting uncle sort of way. Hey thanks for the .... back up John. Greetings and good day. capt. John (ZenPop) said it well. If you don't like politics don't swing by my page, 'cause at I am's joint, it's all about thoughtful discussion, hard issues, and music. I pride myself on being one of the few Moggers who does talk openly about politics, religion, and current events. My readers and I like to stay engaged. Good luck on your voyage, are you in the North Atlantic? That's where I did most of my rough sea cruising.

  6. annieander says "I pride myself on being one of the few Moggers who does talk openly about politics, religion, and current events. My readers and I like to stay engaged." I can't agree with this statement enough...I have gotten more non-music joy following your posts. I so appreciate what you have to offer, and that you are willing to put your views to the test and open yourself up in that way. p.s. I'm still waiting on 5th Amendment though.

  7. Max Load says Like the captain, I have a more immediate concern. There is a baby asleep in a pram in my front porch. It's not mine and it wasn't there this morning. My question is, should I pretend I haven't seen it?

  8. I am says Annie, you are such an ego boost and a great cheerleader. Thanks kid. I know I keep saying it but the Amendments will continue, some day. Max, your pulling my leg. WTF. What are you going to do?

  10. Max Load says Had a bit of a snoop around. Turned out there was a builder in the apartment next door and his wife was tidying up after him. It's kinda quiet round here but, IMO, a bit cold and lonely for a baby outside. I like to think there was a lot of toxic dust in the air indoors and it was safer that way.

  11. brendanhalpin says Didn't catch the debate, as the sight of my former governor Mitt Romney makes me want to barf. Until the Chinese become the sole superpower, anybody on earth who thinks the American elections don't concern them is fooling themselves.

  12. deadmandeadman says The "debates" were a joke. A pathetic joke. A perversion. Each candidate has written position papers on various issues, if you cannot trust any in the media to accurately encapsulate them for you then you must read them yourselves. Each candidate's speeches are archived in myriad sites here in the internet, if you cannot trust any in the media to accurately tell you what was said, then you must read them yourselves. (Please read O'bama's papers and speeches, his warm fuzzy aphorism make me feel all gooey inside). The point is, the dog n pony shows put on by CNN, FOX, NOW, whomever are simply meat shows. If people are making decisions based on these "debates", and they are, we're all in trouble. Now, a bit off point, but as I said way back when, the single biggest issue in the coming election will be immigration. Not Iraq, (where Harry Ried and the looneys are still trying desperately to surrender before things get any better and the shrub appears wise.), not the economy, not the environment; immigration. To those of you reading who have the powers of observation watch how the media willing joins the left in painting any candidate who's strong on border enforcement as bigoted and anti-hispanic. You need not argue w/me, just watch it all unfold.

  13. dharmachris says I missed the debates, but I am not sad about it. DMDM, I think I gotta disagree with you on the issue of immigration. I think the Republicans would like to use it as a wedge issue, like gay marriage in 2004, but I don't think they will pursue it at the same intensity. My reason: Rick Santorum. He tried to use this in PA in 2006 and got his butt kicked. (yes!) Now, it certainly helped that the Dems were hard-headed and wanted to win more than be ideologically pure, so they they chose Robert Casey Jr, a pro-life Dem with a Pennsylvania version of the Kennedy brand. Immigration didn't click here, and in the immortal words of James Carville, PA is Pittsburgh and Philly, with Alabama in between. Capt: yep, this is the place for politics too, which Mr. I_am coordinates with civility and open mindedness. Now granted, the rest of us likely don't have the daily urgency of life you are experiencing, but like Zenpop says, the elections will have global impact. This is similar in import to the elections of 1800 or 1860 or 1932. US citizens, its still Vote or die as Puffy Diddy man says.

  14. Girlcrawl says Was not impressed with the debate. Find Cody's rather succinct observations spot on. Regarding deadmandeadman's 'before things get any better and the shrub appears wise' comment: had the Bush administration possessed even practical wisdom, American soldiers would not presently be in Iraq! Can't fathom that a reasonable person believes the situation in Iraq will improve to the point that America can claim 'victory' or justify having initially invaded Iraq - that ship has sailed. Regardless whether eventual 'improvements' manifest, the catastrophic costs combined with Bush's bungling incompetence has ensured that true 'success' is impossible. We may still be the most powerful and wealthiest country in the world, but power should never be equated with invincibility and pride never allowed to impair judgement. It's doubtful that anyone, even the leftist 'looneys' with the supposed 'surrender mentality', believed a 'cut and run' scenario was a viable option. I find regurgitating such mean-spirited soundbite rhetoric devisive, tedious, and utterly lacking earnestness. America faces debilitatingly complex problems both domestically and abroad; real challenges cannot be solved if the powerful elite continue to manipulate and divide the citizenry with warring political party loyalties - that we pawns gleefully participate says alot about our collective 'powers of observation'.

  15. Cody B says Thanks,GC..Although it wasn't hard to wrap up that "exchange of ideas." It's weird to me that we went in there, took down Saadam and got rid of all the Baathists. Now they are called the Sunnis and they are our (paid handsomely) friends fighting Al-Queda..mistakes were made indeed..and why shouldn't we blame the commander in chief?

  16. Girlcrawl says You did a smashing job regardless Cody. :-) Strongly believe that the Bush administration should be held accountable for the Iraq debacle. This president has failed the American people in virtually every measurable regard, and his policies have proven nearly disastrous to the nation. History will not recall George W. Bush fondly. Did not intend the comment to sound caustic, but I've grown weary of the right-wing FOX News soundbites that people mindlessly spew forth. The rhetoric is frequently negative, personal, and lacking objectivity. Feel I can make that statement given that I'm regarded as a conservative, though a difficult one to pigeonhole...too conservative to be a Democrat, and too liberal to be a Republican. Couldn't care less what side of the political aisle an idea stems from as long as it is sound and results in balanced solutions and effective policies.

  17. Cody B says So I guess that means your are not a big fan of infotainment?;) It is very difficult not to get mad about things..I can toddle along with the discourse for awhile, and then (almost involuntarily) I'll scream out, Why!, like for instance, when I hear anybody died.. How will folks ever have any respect for human life when our government has absolutely no problem killing anybody.. When I hear that, "We'd rather fight them over there, than fight them here" talking point, it really makes me ill..Where the hell do we step off with that attitude..We will blow up your country, plunge your country into civil war, and kill many innocents so we can protect ours. That just isn't right. If the admin really wanted to do this, don't ya think special forces could handle it. But no, we're gunning for a permanent presence..geez Saudi Arabia worked out so well.. Argh. Thanks for joining in GC
