Let's Play A Game ......

Artist:
Just a silly little game. 'Thought experiment' if you will.
Here's a picture of a fellow Mogger. Some of you may know who the person is, some of you don't. If you do keep it under your hat.
The name is and isn't important. All that's important to you right now is the back story for the image. That is all you have to think about. How did these kids get here .... to this place and time?
Since this is a music site I think we should focus on the sound these kids might have made. What was their appeal? Who influenced them? What kind of lives did these kids have? Were they popular? Did a band member die in a fiery crash? Which one was strung out on Twinkies and Yoo-Hoo? Who was the Diva?

The original picture doesn't have a title so I am calling it 'De Annaheim Express'.
The drummer, who is also the band manager, took cash from savings in milk money cuts and lemonade stand earnings and started her own record label 'Porcupine Misfit'. Gaining legitimacy from having her own label she was able to land a contract with Sears to do the 'Toughskin' ads in the late 70's. Having achieved the national spotlight 'the band' decided to cut their first single.
The lead singer, whose quality ranges from a Marc Bolan stance to a Captain Beefheart sense in lyrics decided to pursue side projects.
Feel free to complete the story as you see fit. I just ask that you follow the comments before you. At least in some fashion.
Continuing with the 'Punk Freak Out', here is a 'Dead Milkmen' medley.

Hard to comment on this one Chris. I'll wait and see how (Who?) it unfolds.
Just come back when you have some ideas.
Listen to the track and let your mind wonder in real time. The idea is take it with you when you turn off the computer.
I heard the band played a lot of municipal halls before they made it big and they weren't beyond 'talent shows'.
While the lead singer's albums did not sell well, they were enormously influential among first-wave punk sirens like the Slits and Raincoats, who took their fanship as a sort of rite of initation.
(If the person in the pic beats the tar out of me next week I'm totally blaming you Chris. Heh)
Ah, having listened, I have a guess. She's here?
I heard that too. Unlike Ari the singer of 'the band' is working in California and not cashing in. Mo Tucker did the same thing after The Velvet Underground broke up and they finally found her working in a WalMart in Georgia.
Don't worry, I got your back. I think the person in question will take it all in stride.
John, the 'she' I mentioned in the post is not the Mogger.
There is 4 people in the photo. What is their story?
ooh, chris. She is so going to get you for this.
I doubt that.
Come on Mr. Fiction, who is 'she'?
'she' is the bastard offspring of Mike Brady and the mother from the Partridge Family (can't remember her show name). She put together a band to cover the classic TV sitcom theme songs from the 60s and 70s. Together with Cousin Oliver on drums, Mickey Dolenz's younger sister on keys, and some unnamed extra from "My Three Sons" on bass they toured the country for a long tour in the summer of 1978, only to find themselves stranded in Sioux City one night after the bus driver veered off the road to avoid a jackalope.
Sadly, the music was never heard again, as 'she' disbanded the group after being recruited by the Amish. She was never heard from again, but the rumur is she makes a mean apple butter. The other three also descended into live of mediocrity, so unmentionable that even VH1's "Behind the Music" wouldn't touch it.
That photo tells me they were heavily influenced by Bomp magazine and built up the Anaheim garage sound the magazine and label championed in the early 80s. However they couldn't make the switch from big on Bomp to big on Capitol and broke up in recriminations, hard rugs and jobs in a carwash. The drummer joined Black Flag.
I was left with the impression that they were to go on as an Iron Butterfly cover group, specializing in the extended version of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida...
Alas, their impoverished lives of the back yard never amounted to much more than a few school musicals. Except that with all that practice on the backs of chairs, washtubs, and old piping, the brother was able to fashion even more instruments out of many sorts of backyard trash.
After a stroke of brilliance not that long ago, they each cut their hair boy-like, covered themselves in Blue paint, and continue to tour the country with extra long stops in Vegas.
John I heard that the talent show of '83 was a real disaster. Quite a few arrests after that gig.
Ingham, I read somewhere that they had an early hand in the 'skate scene' surrounding Pasadena in the early 80's. With Hermosa Beach just to the Southwest I could see why the drummer was picked up by Black Flag. Didn't he last for two albums and like 1 and half tours?
Chuck, they found religion. It happened to the Beatles after all. I was under the impression that was just a cover to get publicy and find a quiet place to work on their 2 album. That's all just conjecture and hearsay.
Eric, as far as I know that was a side project that got limited release. You can still find the singles on eBay for about 27-30 bucks.
Huh.... I'll see if I can pick one up.
