Track:Mighty, Mighty Spade & Whitey (Live)
That's it I am calling out all the Funky denizens of the MOS. By my clock it's Friday.
To celebrate or denigrate te impending Inauguration of the first black President in US history I would like to hear your best politically oriented Funk.
What groovy body rockin', mind shaking tracks do you have hidden?
Chew on Curtis while you hit the crates.
Happy FF.

By my clock, I will run your gauntlet.
And the overt racism of the song's title gets a pass, huh?
Gets a pass for what? From who?
I did say celebrate or denigrate. The title I would say is poetic license.
Like a black comedian telling black jokes.
Relax and enjoy the funk.
This cut is a classic, even with the racist connotation... I've posted it in my Listeleleogy post as part of my playlist ;)
As for the gauntlet, here's mine along with the Funk-fu
Its funny that you say that DMDM..The topic is racial, sure, but Curtis says this:
Mighty, mighty Spade and Whitey
Your Black and White Power
Is Gonna Be A Crumbling Tower
Seems anti-racist, seems like he's going after the people who put race first. He also says he's Black and He's proud in the tune, being honest, not racist. He think he sees the positive possibilties of a "post-racial" USA..
Very appropriate Chris.
@Chris......You're right, I should have started by mentioning how much I liked the track. Curtis Mayfield is a long time favorite around here. But.....
@CodyB, yeah, no argument, and I knew that goin' in....but the fact remains...oh forget it. Great song.
Funky Friday is already on fire...!
Yes, I agree, the title is incendiary..
Different Discussion:
Can a word be racist..by itself? Or do you need to know the context?
An excellent question. If we are to believe what's been told to us....at least one word is racist if spoken by the wrong person.
Another question....is there such a thing as benign racism?
Is benign racism the same as racial insensitivity?
Will future generations of Americans be able to break out of the cycle of race first identity?
Curtis Mayfield. Yes, Get deeper now. God knows there ain't no difference!
Hazah...I shall watch from the sidelines (as per usual).
Great to have ya back in the mix Chris! I'm funkin' the funk and diggin' thru the junk. I post-checked ya this morning but neglected to comment. I don't get racism. maybe from all the sci-fi/fantasy absorbed as a kid? it's a plague on humanity that's gotta go!
