Punk Peace #2: Agreement To Disagree ....

Posted over 2 years ago
Pere Ubu is about as Punk as you can get. I wanted to put "The Fevered Dream of Hernando DeSoto" from their St. Arkansas album. But I could work the title into a war theme without referring to a plague and pestilence. So now I am fuzzy and warm and very approachable. This track serves my purposes just fine. This track is off their album "The Modern Dance" recorded in '77 (album was released in 1978) this track puts these Cleveland rockers at the begining of the so called Punk movement. Ubu doesn't just sound good, they are smart too.I am borrowing this from Wiki:*Pere Ubu had an interesting way of combining musicians: from the start the Ubu methodology was almost, just about, nearly, definable: * 'Don't ever audition.' * 'Don't look for someone.' * 'Don't seek success.' * 'Choose the first person you hear about.' * 'Take the first idea you get.' * 'Put unique people together. Unique people will play uniquely whether or not they know how to play.' * 'Delay Centrifugal Destruct Factors for as long as possible then push the button.'*
Much of their music is seen as a reflection of the time and place in which they lived. Dirty old Cleveland. You can see the industrial decay in the album artwork and hear the rust creep in their music. Ubu didn't sell well in the late 70's and early 80's but I believe the sound will stand the test of time.

  5. doombilly says It's weird. I got Modern Dance the same day I got the first Golden Palominos disk and it is hard for me to think about them separately now. Both are great disks to play loudly when you want to rid your house of unwanted guests.
