Patton Genius

Posted about 5 years ago
Here is my second post, yes i know, i'm not much of a poster hehehe, and this post is done in a moment in wich i'm focusing on Mike Patton material scavenging. The latest band/album from Patton, Peeping Tom is like an all-star team of genious musicians on different sorts of breakthrough sonorities, from Dan the Auotomator, to Massive Attack or Bebel Gilberto, to Amon Tobim. You may find on the web a live song from Peeping Tom on Conan O'Brien Late Night. To point out the great album he has done with the X-Ecutioners by the name General Patton Vs The X-Ecutioners.On the Patton wave i would like to post a survey on who are the best male voices ever?Survey - Best Male Voices Ever :- Frank Sinatra- Jeff Buckley- Mike Patton- Tom Yorke- David Bowie- Enrico Caruso- Chet Baker- Freddie Mercuryhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ttm7ECY5fy8

  3. IRodric says uuummmmm Plant, maybe, but Bono???? uuuummmm i don't know if i feel that confortable to place Bono besides voices like Buckley, Yorke, Bowie.......but personal tastes right? yet remember i'm not talking about music and yes voice quality..... Thaks for the first participations on my page :)

  4. damianmannn says Some people hate Plant's voice. Some people think Yorke yipes instead of sings. One thing you can say about Bono is that, if you see them live, they give you the goosebumps.

  5. lemontwist says Mark Lanegan gets my vote. My favorite singer ever. Mmmm.... Yeah, he's good. :)

  6. IRodric says Yeh i believe in you saying that about Bono live, yet I still don't see his voice at the side of thos others, i mean in vocal capacitie, just like Nina Simone had a great peculiar voice but very narrow reach. Mark Lanegan sure has a great voice but isn't he a bit like Nina Simone there, if we count all of those we must talk about all the voices that sound good from Barry White to squilling metal voices. Lanegan with QOTSA on Hanging Tree is amazing though.

  7. ivylander says Wait a second! How can a list of great male voices composed by a Brazilian not include Joao Gilberto, Caetano Veloso, or Dorival Caymmi?

  8. damianmannn says BTW...I don't think much of Mike Patton's voice. That's just a weird choice as "best"...or one of the "best"

  9. IRodric says Because i'm not Brasilian, i'm portuguese heheheheh And those are definetly great composers, singers but on the level of analysis i'm trying to get to in here. AAAhhh damianmann to not like Patton music it is very understandable, but to deny his voice capability is pure mis-comprehension of the subject, since he has one of the most versatile voices out there. The reason why a person like Bjork calls him to record an all voice album, or great maestros like Medeski or John Zorn collaborate with him, or even why many bands try to get him to sing for them even though he refuses, bands like INXS or the new Velvet Revolver. Yet Damianmaann i'm not trying to pick on you for the Bono choice, as I said personal tastes are not arguable. I only wanted to direct this not to the personal tastes of music but to the voice capabilities analysis.
