There are easy way to describe a band but most time that means the band in question lacks any interest. A good band is, most times, defined by a complicated equation of different bands or adjectives. Well, if you're writing for Kerrang ! or if you're at a label, there is no other way to sell the band or the artist. But for the Abominable Iron Sloth, there is no other way to describe their debut album that to tell the truth : This is a very pissed of version of Will Haven ! Who are Will Haven ? Ok, that's a question many people are going to ask because, sadly, and unlike the Deftones, who comes from the same town and are friends of WH, they are not very well known. But now, I'm starting to talk about another band. Which was not the point of the article, but nevermind, you need to hear both bands. So, Will Haven, the new subject of my article, are a metal band from Sacramento who mixes elements of Doom, Metal and Hardcore to create a sound that hasn't been duplicated by anyone. Will Haven's song are slow, but they can also be very dynamic. On each of their record you will find heavy and rythmic riffs but also parts that will make you feel like you're under water and a whale is talking to you. This is what makes Will Haven, a band, not a single guy, such a complex entity and also why they are not as well known as the Deftones. Don't get me wrong, I don't think they are better than the Deftones, I'm a fan of both bands. But Will Haven's sound is so unique and cathartic that you have to immerse yourself fully into their sound to get what is going on. They are not catchy, they are not angry about their last girlfriend problem. They are just like this. All the time. Sad and full of sorrow but still full of life and ready to crush their weakness under a wall of sound so dense and powerful that you will want to take cover when the album starts. Yes, I like to add a lot of adjectives and stupid comparison in my article. But, you see, I was "raised" on a weekly dose of Kerrang ! during the first years of my musical obsession so it shouldn't be a surprise to find such an influence in my writing. But, the Abominable Iron Sloth ? Well, they are not as unique as Will Haven to be honest, but it is this angry and vicious voice that leads the band accross 9 tracks of pure fury, and this is why the Abominabe Iron Sloth are not a Will Haven clone but a variation on a similar theme. But it's a theme you'll want to hear a lot. "Will Haven":http://myspace.com/willhaven43
