Aesop Rock - Prosperity !

Posted over 4 years ago
I endure the most atracious difficulties these days to stop listenning to Aesop Rock. I just can't ! I've recently started a rap project to start rapping and try my mouth to a new kind of sound. Just for the hell of it. Who cares if I'm good or if I'm relevant. At least I'm expressing myself while staying true to the ethics that defines all my writings : be honest, don't overdo something you can't do, always experiment to expand your vocabulary. And naturally, with this new project, who else to turn than to Aesop Rock for inspiration on "how to rap and tell intelligent things but still be honest and not pretentious". To me, Aesop Rock is the perfect Mc. There aren't anything I dislike about the guy. His text are awlays surprising, his instrumentals sound natural and fresh and he doesn't rely on rap cliché to tell his stories but constantly creates new mental pictures to expand the listenner's imagination. I'm a big fan of his work on Labor days and Float but None shall pass seems to be even better from the two singles I've heard. Both none shall pass and citronella shows a clear evolution. The instrumentals are both very varied and keep the natural sound of Labor days and Float but mix it with the electronic sound of Bazooka tooth (which wasn't his best work but a still very consistant record). His voice, on the other hand, is even more assured than before and keep the ears entertained while moving the brain in different places. Typical Aesop Rock but very atypical rap.
