Viva la Vida
If Frida Kahlo were a French singer instead of a Mexican painter, her name might have been Édith Piaf. While Frida painted canvases, Édith painted the air with her songs. As it is with so many legendary artists, the all-consuming passion exuded by each of these women stemmed from lives full of suffering and pain (both were crippled in automobile accidents, and died when they were 47, coincidentally). Come what may however, if I could have a single wish granted in this life, it would be to experience half as much passion as just one of these remarkable women did during theirs.

I love this post. I love both of those women. I love the way you connected them.
We should be so lucky for half as much passion, well said!
Here's to much passion coming our way!

I love this post also, and didn't realize that Piaf and Kahlo had so many similar life experiences. Kahlo in the photo looks as if she's thinking bitter thoughts about Diego Rivera's womanizing. Piaf's two perfomances here are moving. You might enjoy Italian singer Carlo Buti's version of "La Vie en Rose."
Thanks for all the kind comments, everyone. Spike, I love the Italian version! Grazie!
La Vie en Rose was one of the most emotional movies I've ever seen. Although the song itself is ingrained somehow in my consciousness, I never knew the story, and was unprepared for the carnage. Great film, though...sparked my interest in Edith Piaf. Such a tragic figure.
